Free Position Goals Give Irondequoit the Win

Irondequoit scored the final four goals of the contest to defeat Webster Schroeder 9-7.  The Eagles have won the contest all eight times that the two teams have played in the last 10 years.  After tonight's game, the Eagles increase their record to 7-4 and the Warriors fall to 4-8.

Irondequoit came out the gate swinging and scored the first four goals, including two in under two minutes.  Quinn Melidona scored the first of her 2g-1a with an assist from Celina Alvarado.  Alvarado also had a strong game and finished with 2g-1a.  Annie Brennan, who scored the final two goals to secure the win, scored her first goal unassisted with 23:08 remaining in the first half.  Brennan currently leads her team in goals and points (Irondequoit Team Totals).  With 16:26 remaining in the first half, Irondequoit led 4-0.  The Warriors scored the three of the next four to keep the game close and with 9:21 remaining in the half trailed 5-3.  The first of which was scored by Madison Bell with 14:37 remaining. Brennan scored her second goal to give the Eagles a 6-3 lead going into halftime.

Coming out of halftime, the Warriors exploded.  They scored the next four goals to take the lead 7-6.  The first three goals to tie the game were scored in less than one minute.  Payton Lill scored three of the four goals with Maria Hristodoulou scoring the fourth.  With 16:38 remaining, Schroeder took their first lead of the game (Lill from Bell).  They held the lead for 10 minutes before Alvardo scored on an 8 meter free position to tie the game.  Less than one minute later, Brennan was on the 8 meter line for her own free position shot, where she took the lead back for Irondequoit.  The final goal was also scored by Brennan with 3:49 remaining.  The final four minutes were mostly Irondequoit stalling out the clock to secure the victory.
