End of Week #1

With the first week of the shortened season coming to an end, we look on to week 2.  This week has 39 games on the schedule with 36 games being played last week.  The closest game of the week was the OT win for Penfield over Bright (9-8) that was covered by GLaxFive (here).  Additionally, there were two other one goal games (Mercy over Schreoder 16-15 and Mercy over Penfield 10-9).

There are still 4 teams that have yet to have their first game (Bishop Kearney, Canandaigua, Churchville-Chili and Fairport).  As we continue with the season, please make note of the new area to the left side of the home page that summarizes the games played each day or look below in each of the Week Summaries for links.

Thursday Games


Another four games were played tonight with two one goals games coming in.  Penfield defeated Brighton 9-8 in overtime and Mercy held off a late push by Webster Schroeder to defeat the Warriors 16-15.  In the other two games, Spencerport defeated Hilton 18-8 and Pittsford defeated Thomas 14-3.  A report was filed with GLaxFive regarding Penfield's overtime win and can be found (here).

2021 Opening Day

Welcome back to Section V lacrosse.  The 2021 Girls Lacrosse season opened today with three games.  Penfield came back from a 0-2 start and scored four straight against HFL.  The Patriots never trailed again and defeated the Cougars 12-6.  Brighton controlled the entire game in their 12-4 win over Webster Schroeder.  Mercy defeated Thomas 11-9 with Kristyn Johnson leading the Monarchs with 4g.

Fall Youth Session at HF-L

Over 150 K-2 graders experienced a beautiful fall Saturday as they began to learn the basics of lacrosse as a part of the HF-L Youth Lacrosse program. Following youth camp COVID protocols, the boys and girls, under the direction of volunteer adults, high school players and coaches, traveled as a group from one drill area to another. They worked on passing and catching, shooting, stick positions and ground balls with a great deal of encouragement and with "fun" the central element.

Two Named UA-All-Americans

The annual Under Armour All-America Senior games were cancelled last spring, but the organizers recently published the list of players who would have been invited if there had been a 2020 spring season. 

McDermott and SchwabSelected to play on the North Boys team was Casey McDermott (Brighton) and on The North Girls team was Morgan Schwab (Fairport).

COVID-19 as it relates to 2020 Season

With all Section Five schools closing, there is limited information available about what happens next.  Section V released the statement below and we will keep you updated when we hear more.  For the time being we are not updating the schedules until we have more information. 

Section V released the following statement:

"Due to the unprecedented events as a result of the coronavirus many local county health departments have recommend school closings. This obviously puts a pause on the spring sports season. We will continue to communicate with our members schools, sport coordinators as well as NYSPHSAA leadership. We will remain positive and optimistic, while focusing on the health and safety of all involved."

Post Season Awards

Since the conclusion of the season, we have worked to collect all the Post Season Awards to release at a single time.  As we approach a week out from the State Finals, we have determined that we cannot wait any longer.  Tonight, we posted all the information that we have received and will update the missing data when it is provided.  We have received some requests to update individual personal pages and apologize to those waiting to see their records updated.

Tournament Articles

Section Five swept Section Six in the first round of the Tournament, before being swept in the second round.  Section Five Champions were Pittsford (Class A), Canandaigua (Class B), HFL (Class C) and Pal-Mac (Class D).

Section Five Sweeps Sect 6 in First Round

All four Section Five teams defeated their Section Six counterparts today in the first round of the NYS Tournament.  In the early games, Pittsford defeated Lancaster 19-7 and Pal-Mac defeated Eden 19-5.  In the second games, Canandaigua defeated Frontier 13-3 and HFL defeated Lake Shore 15-9.  With the Boy's going 3 for 4; 7 out of 8 Section Five teams advanced to the Semi Finals.
