Seniors Bauld and Beikirch Lift Ath/Ody

- Seniors Chelsea Bauld and Seanna Beikirch helped to lift Greece Athena/Odyssey over Eastridge 9-8.  The Lancers led the game for the first 30 minutes before a yellow card give the Thunder a man-up advantage that led to three 8 meter goals from Beikirch.  She finished with 3g-2a for the Thunder.  Bauld, who finished with 1g, was demonstrative at the draw control, winning 6 controls.  Beikirch added another 4 controls for Thunder.

Defensively, Greece had a strong game with standout performances from Bauld as well as seniors Tessa Miller and Niphapone Chisouvanh. Junior Kristen Gielenfeldt also had a strong defensive game.  Between the pipes, sophomore Natalie Arieno finished with 9 saves (8 came in the second half).  Arieno finished the game strong, stopping a number of shots as Eastridge attempted a late comeback.

Of the 17 goals during the game, 9 where from eight meter free position shots and 3 where from fast-break goals.  Only five where scored in settled offense.  Bauld scored the opening goal from free position with 21:36 remaining in the first quarter.  Less than two minutes later, Eastridge tied the game with a free position goal from Sofia Agurto-Munding.  Agurto-Munding finished with 4g to lead the Lancers.  Greece scored the next goal with a fast-break pass from Rachel Boily to Sofia Inclema.

The Lancers fought back with back to back goals to take their first lead of the game.  Agurto-Munding scored the first off a pass from Palina Phimprachanh.  The second was a dodge from Grace Hawes.  The Lancer lead held for nine minutes before Greece tied the game with another free position goal, this time from Morgan Sinclair.  Emily Benham took the lead back to the Thunder with a feed from Beikirch with 4:58 remaining in the half.  Hawes scored back to back unassisted goals to take her game total to 3g with a drive from behind the cage and a fast-break drive from the midfield line.  Eastridge led 5-4 at halftime.

In the second half, Athena/Odyssey scored five of the first six goals to go from trailing by one to leading by three.  Four of the five goals were scored from free position shots with the fifth goal being scored on an inside feed from Beikirch to Inclema.  Eastridge trailed by three with 13:14 left in the second half.  They fought back with two goals: Veronica Wojnowski scored on a free position goal and Hawes assisted Agurto-Munding on an inside feed.  With 1:53 remaining Greece took possession of the ball and held it.  Eastridge could did not get another chance on offense.

In the cage for Eastridge, Nikki Larsen finished at 57% with 12 saves. The Lancers won 7 draws total with 4 controls coming from Cherlyn Felle,  The Lancers face off against Gates Chili on Saturday at 1:30.  The Thunder will play their next game against Spencerport next Wednesday,
