Whitman Defeats Gananda Third Time this Season

- Marcus Whitman faced off against Gananda for the third time this season.  The first match-up on 4/27 saw the Wildcats win 8-7 in overtime.  The second match-up was a two goal win for Marcus Whitman 7-5.  The Wildcats came in today ready to win even bigger.  They jumped to a 7-1 lead and never looked back.  They will move on to face #2 seeded HFL on Tuesday.

Marcus Whitman opened up with the first three goals of the game.  The starting goal was scored 0:16 into the contest with Abbie Alvord grabbing the draw control and driving straight to the cage.  Two minutes later, Emily Thompson scored the first of her six goals.  She scored on a fast-break goal, running all the way from the defensive area straight to the goal.  With 20:35 remaining, she scored again after driving in off a free-position shot outside the 8 meter.  Gananda's Allison Stark scored the first goal for the Blue Panthers with an inside feed from Jordan Cunningham.  Stark caught the ball facing away from the cage and twisted as she took the shot.

Marcus Whitman scored four more goals before Gananda added their second.  Cameron James fed the ball to the crease and found Jordan Knapp open.  With 11:53 remaining in the half, Danni Bagley drove to the cage and found Thompson open after the slide.  Gananda trailed 5-1 and called a timeout.  However, they could not stop the Wildcat momentum.  Thompson scored her fourth on another fast-break followed quickly be a free position goal from James.  With 3:30 remaining, Melissa Camp scored off an 8 meter shot.  Alvord scored shortly there after with an 8 meter goal of her own.  The final Gananda goal of the half came when Cunningham grabbed the draw and drove to the goal.  She hit the inside pipe and the ball bounced into the cage.

The Wildcats added two more goals before the half to lead 10-3.  The scoring continued in the second half.  Marcus Whitman scored two goals in the first five minutes with Ellie Nemitz assisting both.  The Blue Panthers responded with two of their own.  Jenna Ginsbery and Kaira Donnan both dodged from the outside and finished in the back of the net.  Nemitz continued her scoring streak for the Wildcats and scored her first goal of the night and assisted her third.  She was a part of all four goals for the Wildcats in the second half.  The final goal of the game was scored with 1:00 remaining on the clock.  Senior Jennifer Powell scored her first ever Varsity goal for the Blue Devils.

In the cage for Marcus Whitman, Liz Cooley finished with 5 saves.  For Gananda, Julie Hoyser recorded six saves.  The draw controls were evenly split with Marcus Whitman winning 12 and Gananda winning 11.  Only one player from each team had 3.  Knapp finished with three for the Wildcats and Ginsberg finished with three for the Blue Panthers.
