Victor defeats Hamburg to Head to State Semis

- Victor scored the opening goal and never trailed in their 23-9 win over Hamburg.  The Bulldogs finished their season at 12-8.  Victor was led in scoring by Emily Hawryschuk (7g-3a), Kaci Messier (6g-3a) and Bridget Flynn (5g-1a).  The three girls combined for 18 of the 23 goals.  One major key to their success came at the draw.  The Blue Devils combined for 24/32 draws.  Claire Herrmann finished with 5 of the 8 draws for the Bulldogs.  She also added 2g-2a.  The big scorer for the Bulldogs was Rebecca Izzo with 4g-1a.

Victor scored the first three goals with a drive from behind by Hawryschuk only 0:21 into the contest.  Next was an inside feed from Brenna Fosco to Bridget Flynn and third was an 8 meter goal from Messier.  The Bulldogs got on the board with an 8 meter shot by Julia Feuerstein.  Victor added two more to lead 5-1 with back to back goals from Messier.

The Blue Devils continued their scoring at led 9-3 with 12:09 remianing in the half.  Hamburg attempted to come back and added three unanswered goasl to bring the game to 9-6, but that was closest they got.  Hermann scored the first on an 8 meter goal.  Then she assisted Izzo off another 8 meter free position.  Izzo scored the third goal off a fast-break with Addy Wright assisting.  Victor then added four more goals and held Hamburg to one more before the half.  The Blue Devils led 13-7 at halftime.

They came out of halftime and scored 10 unanswered goals to take a 23-7 lead.  The final two goals of the game were scored by Hamburg with Izzo scoring off a feed from behind by Herrmann and Herrmann scoring off an inside feed from Izzo.  In the cage for Hamburg, Lauren Spencer recorded 6 saves.

For the Blue Devils, Lauren Houtenbrink and Sydney DiBerardinis split halves.  Houtenbrink recorded 4 saves and DiBerardinis recorded 3.  As noted above, draws were a key factor for the Blue Devils.  Leading the count for Victor was Flynn with 9.  Hawryschuk added 8 and Maddy Haney and Messier added another 3 each.

Victor will move on to play the winner of Garden City (Section 8) and Eastport-South Manor (Section 11) on Friday at 12:00.  Garden City and Eastport-South Manor will play tomorrow at 2:30 PM at Stony Brook University.
