Messier Leads Victor

- Kaci Messier was a key player all over the field in Victor’s 16-5 win over Greece Olympia-Arcadia.  The Blue Devils led 12-1 going into the second half.  Messier finished with 4g-3a, 2 draw controls and 2 groundballs.  Messier, who took the majority of the draws, was often instrumental in directing the ball to one of her teammates.  Victor finished 10/23 at the draw, over half of their losses were due to technical fouls.

In the first half, goalie Sydney DiBerardinis finished with 2 saves and 1 goal against.  The lone Lightning goal of the first half was scored by Madison Corcoran on a free position shot.  The Blue Devils scored 12 goals in the first half (one off the 8m line).  In the second half, both teams added four goals.  Victor scored the opening goal of the half with Delany Shottland scoring unassisted.  Two minutes later, the Lightning scored their second goal, again off the 8m line (Savannah Smallidge).  Victor’s Katie Castiglia scored her second goal of the night off an impressive feed from Katie Kopp right in front of the crease.  As time was counting down, the Lightning increased their shots on cage.  They took over half of their shots in the final 11 minutes of the contest (including the three final goals).

Kopp and Schottland finished with 2 caused turnovers each for the Blue Devils.  Haggerty finished with a team leading 4 draw controls for Victor.  For the Lightning, junior midfielder Kaylee O’Dell finished with 3 draw controls, 1 groundball and 1 caused turnover.  Senior, Madison Corcoran also recorded 4 draw controls for Oly/Arc.
