# 707  2024 Season Wrap Up

There were thirty teams playing Varsity Girls Lacrosse in Section V. There were 688 players on the final rosters. Brockport carried the largest roster with thirty-one players and Waterloo-Marcus Whitman had the smallest with fourteen. 

There were four classes for the sectional tournaments. Penfield (A), Canandaigua (B), and Mercy (C) and Penn Yan were the top seeded teams.

Fairport beat Rush-Henrietta and the Pittsford for their championship. Second-seeded Victor beat Thomas and then Brighton before defeating top-seeded Victor for the Class B Championship. In Class C, Mercy beat Wayne and then HFL in a close game to claim their championship while in Class D, Penn Yan beat Marcus Whitman, Aquinas/WHOIS, and the Pal-Mac for their title.

The teams were able to play a full season again in 2024. The first games were played on March 25th with Hilton, Spencerport and Schroeder winning their openers. The last regular season game was played on May 16th when Canandaigua defeated Churchville-Chili.

The 262 regular season games were played and the 138 league games determined the league championships.

Fairport Champs

At the end of the year, the Section V Head Coaches selected the post-season award winners including their All-League players. Then they selected five USA Lacrosse All-Americans and five All-Academics. Named All-Americans were Reagan Diehl (Pal-Mac), Ella Peers (Fairport), Devin Livingston (Victor), Hanna Davis (Canandaigua), and Molly Guzik (Spencerport).

Named All-Academics were Alli Chimenti (Wayne), Katie Mallaber (Fairport), Alyssa Nichols (Spencerport), Angelia Oechsle (Rush-Henrietta), and Lucy Lederman (Brighton).

Honeoye Falls-Lima Head Coach Kevin O`Connell was named Coach of the Year from Section V and the Jackie Pitts Award winner was Zoe Baase from Brockport.

Victor Champs

After the regular season, the Section V tournaments were conducted. Fairport (Class A), Victor (Class B), Mercy (Class C) and Penn Yan (Class D) were the Sectional Champions in 2024.

The New York State Tournaments were back in full swing and sectional champions went on to play Section VI champions in the Western Regionals (quarter finals).

In Class A, Fairport beat Lancaster (12-7) and then defeated Massapequa (Section VIII) 10-9-7, taking them to finals where they lost to Cicero-North Syracuse (Sect III) 12-8.HFL Champs

In Class B, Victor beat Clarence (Section VI) with a score of 22-0. They then beat West Islip (Section X) 11-10 and defeated West Genesee (Section III) 16-8 to win their third Class B NYS Championship in a row.

In Class C, Our Lady of Mercy won their game against Lake Shore of Section VI 17-8 but then lost to Sayville (Section XI) with a score of 13-8 in the semifinals. Penn Yan beat Gowanda (Section VI) 17-4 before losing to Cold Spring Harbor (Section VIII) 18-4 in the semifinals.

At the end of the season at least sixty-four players who have made college commitments. They will become part of over three hundred players from Section V who are currently playing at all college levels.

# 706  2024 All League Awards

[UPDATED] The annual All-League Awards have been posted and are available on the player pages as well as the awards page.

The Finger Lakes League awarded first team awards to Reagan Diehl, Chelsea Korzeniewski, Anna Priebe, Jenna Santelli, Taryn Goodness, Sidney Clickner, Stella Del Papa, Lainie Forde, Colleen Ginsberg, Myah Herron, Madelyn Hillman, Teagan Hudak, Maci Mueller, Bailey Rossignol, Maddie Whitford, and Amelia Reese.

The Attack Player of the Year was Chelseas Korzaneski from Mynderse-Romulus. The Defender Player of the Year was Taryn Goodness from Pal-Mac. The Midfield Player of the Year was Maci Muller from Waterloo who was also named Finger Lakes Player of the Year. The Head Coach of the Year was E.J. Burse (Pal-Mac).

The USA Lacrosse All-Americans were Molly Guzik (Spencerport), Hanna Davis (Canandaigua), Devin Livingston (Victor), Ella Peers (Fairport) and  Reagan Diehl (Pal-Mac. The All-Academics were Lucy Lederman (Brighton), Angelia Oechsle (Rush-Henrietta), Katie Mallaber (Fairport), and Allie Chimenti ((Wayne).

Monroe County The Monroe County League first team D-1 awards to Katie Mallaber, Madison Van Gorder, Lilly Mattucci, Jenna Capozzi, Peyton Rothfuss, Cecily Kaul, Dani Mooney, Angelia Oechsle, Catrina Rowe, Danielle Garrett, Kate Dewald, Abby Murphy, Allie Pisano, Julia Bruno, Maia Pronti, Ryann Savage, Lucy Ruller, and Mia Estelle.

The D-1 Defensive Player of The Year was Devin Livingston (Victor). The D-1 Offensive Player of The Year was Ella Peers (Fairport) and the Coach of the Year was Dave York (Penfield).

The Monroe County League awarded first team D-2 awards to Zoe Baase, Caroline Lyttle, Hanna Davis, Leah Sheridan, Nola Weaver, Campbell Hewlett, Paige Kidd, Shaye Angelo, Ali Baumgartner, Ella Brennan, Emma Francis, Alyssa Nichols, Brooke Endres, and Molly Meyer.

The D-2 Defensive Player of The Year was Rose Heagney (Canandaigua). The D-2 Offensive Player of The Year was Molly Guzik (Spencerport) and the Coach of the Year was Kevin O`Connell (HFL) who was also selected as the Monroe County Coach of the Year.

The Independent teams also selected awards in 2024. First teams awards went to Mia Lusardi, Krista Harnischfeger, Elinor Meyer, Marina Reddington, Emma Kravetz, Savannah Hinchcliffe, Brynn Henry, Kessa Sangasy, Ada Krupa, Jill Willis, Erica Savage, and Mara Misiurewicz. The Independent Player of the Year was Mia Quagrello (Mercy).

# 699  Canandaigua and Victor win Close 7-6 Games
WAYNE-3 at MERCY-18 - Twelve different players scored goals for Mercy (8-9) including Lydia Malvaso (2g-3a), Mia Quagrello (2g-2a), and Evelyn McAuliffe (3g). Wayne vs MercyEASTRIDGE/BK-8 at HONEOYE FALLS-LIMA-20 -  Eight different players scored goals for Honeoye Falls-Lima (9-9) including sophomore attacker Shaye Angelo (4g-2a), senior attacker Camryn Trybuskiewicz (3g-3a), junior midfielder Rylee Bennett (5g), and sophomore defender Anna DeClerck (2g). Cougar senior goalie Lily Brady recorded 5s/4ga = 56% (36 mins). Wayne vs MercyBRIGHTON-6 at VICTOR-7 -  The closely matched teams tied numerous times, scoring two goals each in the first and second quarters. Victor took a one goal lead after three quarters but Brighton tied it up again in the last stanza. Libby Boland scored her lone goal with fifty-three second left in regulation to send the Blue Devils to the Championship game against Canandaigua on Wednesday. Leading the scoring for Victor (15-3) were Devin Livingston (3g), Maia Pronti (1a), Allie Pisano (1a), Morgan Livingston (1g), Camryn Adrid (1g), and Libby Boland (1g). In the goal for Victor was senior Maggie Allen with 6s/4ga = 60% (48 mins). Wayne vs MercySPENCERPORT-6 at CANANDAIGUA-7 - In the other semifinal Class B game, top seeded Canandaigua edged out Spencerport (#4) by a one goal margin. Scoring for the Rangers were Molly Guzik (2g), Brooke Endres (3g), and Aria Pittman (1g). Guzik ends her scholastic career with 166g-124a in five years on the Varsity. She will move on to Syracuse University in the fall.   There was no report from Canandaigua (16-2) at post-time but the Grey Wolves will play Victor for the Class B Championship on Wednesday.      [ BOX SCORE

strong>DAY IN REVIEW: THURSDAY - There were six games played on the last day of the regular season. Penn Yan won a close one with Honeoye Falls-Lima. Other winners were Brighton, Canandaigua, Waterloo, Eastridge/BK and Livonia-Avon.

BRIGHTON-17 at MERCY-9 - Brighton Junior goalie Lauren Russell reached her 200th save with her 7 saves. BROCKPORT-2 at SPENCERPORT-17 -  For the Rangers, it was their tenth consecutive win over the Blue Devils dating back to 2015.  Molly Guzik (5g/1a), Brooke Endres (4g), Sophia Marron (3g), and Alyssa Nichols (2g/1a) led the scoring for Spencerport (9-6).  There were no statistics reported from Brockport (4-9) at post time.  Both teams resume play at home Friday, with Spencerport facing Fairport and Brockport taking on Hilton.        [ BOX SCORE

Brockport vs SpencerportRUSH-HENRIETTA-18 at HILTON-3 - It was the Royal Comets’ ninth consecutive win over the Cadets.  Eight players scored for Rush-Henrietta (11-3), including Danielle Garrett (2g/6a), Kate DeWald (4g/2a), and Riley Brown (3g/3a), whose second goal was the 50th of her varsity career.  Ryleigh Lent had two goals for Hilton (3-10).  The Royal Comets are back on the field Thursday when they take on undefeated Canandaigua.  The Cadets visit Brockport on Friday.      [ BOX SCORE

NEWARK-MIDLAKES-12 at WAYNE-17 - In this battle of Eagles, the non-screaming variety prevailed.  The Eagles of Wayne (6-7) were led by Isabella Veltre (5g/1a), Madelyn Hillman (4g/2a), and Julia DiLeo (4g); Anabelle Ruffell collected eight draw controls, and Mimi Ugalde had 11 saves.  For the Screaming Eagles of Newark-Midlakes (4-9), Stella Del Papa had 13 draw controls—including the 200th of her varsity career—to go with two goals and three assists, and Zoey Overslaugh added five goals and an assist.  Both teams have home contests on Friday, with Wayne meeting Gates Chili and Newark-Midlakes facing off against Eastridge/Bishop Kearney.         [ BOX SCORE

Brockport vs SpencerportWATERLOO-16 at GANANDA-MARION-9 - The Tigers improved their record to 8-4, behind seven goals from Maci Mueller, three goals from Giana Delucia, and two goals each from Bailey Rossignol, Lainie Forde, and MacKenzie Tam.  Mueller and Rossignol also collected 10 draw controls each, including, for Mueller, the 100th of her varsity career.  Leading the scoring for Gananda-Marion (3-10) were Lexi Gallina (4g/1a) and Colleen Ginsberg (3g/1a).  Three players on the Blue Panthers achieved career milestones in the game—Maria Melnik collected her 500th career save, and Alexandra Cornell and Jordyn Brice each scored her first varsity goal.       [ BOX SCORE]   

PITTSFORD-5 at PENFIELD-10 - The Patriots built a 6-1 first-quarter lead on the way to their tenth victory of the season.  Penfield (10-4) was led by Peyton Rothfuss, who recorded a game-high four goals and eight draw controls.   There were no statistics reported from Pittsford (5-8) at post time.  The Patriots visit Schroeder on Friday.  The Panthers host section III rival Fayetteville-Manlius on Saturday.         [ BOX SCORE

Senior midfielder Molly Guzik (Spencerport) reached her 150th goal with her 5 goals (152g) and reached her 50th assist with her 4 assists (52a).

CHURCHVILLE-CHILI-5 at HILTON-14. In the Section V season opener, the Cadets emerged victorious behind a balanced attack featuring Lilly Mattucci (3g/3a) and Elena Graziano (5a).  Charley Barlette added two goals for Hilton while also collecting five ground balls and causing three turnovers.  The Cadets resume their schedule on April 10 when they visit Thomas. enfield scored 1:39 into the first overtime period with Sydney Nakas scoring off an 8m opportunity.  The Patriots defeated Brighton 9-8 to become 2-0 on the season.  Leading the charge for Penfield was junior Elisa Faklaris with 5g.  Haley Emmick (1g) was also a major player after controlling 6 draw controls.  Brighton was led by three different players who all finished with 2g: Elise Murphy (2g-2a), Delaney McManus (2g-1a) and Katherine Murray (2g).
