# 703  Victor and Fairport Back to the Finals
strong>DAY IN REVIEW: FRIDAY - Section V had teams in all four of the NYS semifinals and two will advance to the championship round as both Fairport and Victor won close games.

FAIRPORT-10 at MASSAPEQUA-9 -   In a tight, back-and-forth contest featuring several second-half lead changes, Brenna Goss (3g) scored the game winner off a free position with 26 seconds left and Marisa Test made a last-second save to secure the win.  The game was a rematch of last year’s class A final, which the Red Raiders similarly won by a score of 10 to 9.   Katie Mallaber led Fairport (14-6) with five goals and two assists.  The Red Raiders advance to the class A final, where they will seek to defend their title against Cicero-North Syracuse (III), in a game to be played at 2 pm Saturday at SUNY Cortland.       [ BOX SCORE

VICTOR-11 at WEST ISLIP-10 -  Although Victor scored early six unanswered goals West Islip scored a couple to go into the halftime break with Victor up 7-2. The Blue Devils still led after three quarters (8-4) and with 2:15 left in the regulation has an 11-7 lead. Throughout the game it looked like the Blue Devils were very much in control and might even dominate, but the Lions came back with three goals in the last two minutes that started with an unforced turnover and a man-up goal as Carly Obloj dodged two and bounced one into the goal with 1:22 left in the game. The Lions won the draw and called time-out with 1:12 left. Francesca Tofano scored on a free position and brought the Lions to within two goals with 0:59 left. West Islip won the draw and picked up another free position opportunity for Tofano who scored with 0:34 left. Once again, the Lions won the draw control and then called a time out with 0:26 left. They took one more shot which went wide and the Blue Devils were able to hang on for the win. Victor will return to the finals once again and will face West Genesee (Section III) at 4:30 on Saturday. MERCY-8 at SAYVILLE -13 -  Sayville (Section XI) maintained their undefeated season with the victory over Mercy in the semifinals today. Although the Monarchs had a 4-3 lead at the end of the first quarter, Sayville scored five unanswered goals in the second and led 8-4 at the half.  Dylan McNamara led the scoring for the 20-0  Golden Flashes. Scoring for Mercy (10-10) were Krista Harnischfeger (3g-1a), Mia Lusardi (2g), Sydney Cook (1g-1a), Emma Kravetz (1g), and Lydia Malvaso (1g).         [ BOX SCORE

PENN YAN-4 at COLD SPRING HARBOR-18 -     In a class D semifinal, Penn Yan ran into a buzzsaw in the form of perennial powerhouse Cold Spring Harbor (VIII).  Bailey Cooper (2g/1a) and ninth-grader Makenna Mullins (2g) accounted for all of the Mustangs’ scoring; Cooper also secured seven draw controls, including the 200th of her varsity career.  The Mustangs conclude their season with an outstanding record of 17-4.       [ BOX SCORE

# 702  A Clean Sweep for Section V
LANCASTER-7 at FAIRPORT-12 -  The Red Raiders built a 7-2 first-quarter lead en route to their second straight NYS class A semifinal berth.  Ella Peers led Fairport (13-6) with four goals, two assists, and six draw controls.  Katie Mallaber added three goals and Brenna Goss chipped in two more.  It was Fairport’s second win in consecutive years over Lancaster (VI) in the NYS quarterfinal round.  The Red Raiders move on to Cortland, where they will take on Massapequa (VIII) Friday in a rematch of last year’s class A final.        [ BOX SCORE

GOWANDA-4 at PENN YAN-17 - The Mustangs scored a convincing win over their opponents from Gowanda (VI).  Nine players scored for Penn Yan (17-3), led by Bailey Cooper (6g/2a).  Ruby Berry, Taylor Mullins, and Makenna Mullins each had two goals for the Mustangs; Taylor Mullins also collected eight draw controls.  With the victory, the Mustangs secured a return trip to Cortland, where they will face Cold Spring Harbor (VIII) in the NYS class D semifinals on Friday.          [ BOX SCORE

Mercy and Penn Yan LAKE SHORE-8 at MERCY-17 -  Leading the scoring for Mercy (10-9) were sophomore attacker Sydney Cook (4g-4a), junior midfielder Lydia Malvaso (4g-1a), and sophomore offensive player Mia Quagrello (3g). In the goal for Mercy was freshman Elinor Meyer who recorded 10s/6ga = 63% (40 mins). Mercy will play Sayville (Section XI) on Friday at 9:00 AM.       [ BOX SCORE

WAYNE-3 at MERCY-18 - Twelve different players scored goals for Mercy (8-9) including Lydia Malvaso (2g-3a), Mia Quagrello (2g-2a), and Evelyn McAuliffe (3g). Scoring for Wayne (10-8) were Megan Montgomery (1g), Lauren Twist (1a), Isabella Veltre (1g), and Madelyn Hillman (1g).  Mercy will play HFL on Wednesday for the Class C Championship.       [ BOX SCORE]   - - More images in the photo gallery.

Wayne vs MercyEASTRIDGE/BK-8 at HONEOYE FALLS-LIMA-20 -  Eight different players scored goals for Honeoye Falls-Lima (9-9) including sophomore attacker Shaye Angelo (4g-2a), senior attacker Camryn Trybuskiewicz (3g-3a), junior midfielder Rylee Bennett (5g), and sophomore defender Anna DeClerck (2g). Cougar senior goalie Lily Brady recorded 5s/4ga = 56% (36 mins). There was no report from Eastridge/BK (11-6) at post-time.  HFL will play Mercy on Wednesday for the Class C Championship.      [ BOX SCORE

Wayne vs MercyBRIGHTON-6 at VICTOR-7 -  The closely matched teams tied numerous times, scoring two goals each in the first and second quarters. Victor took a one goal lead after three quarters but Brighton tied it up again in the last stanza. Libby Boland scored her lone goal with fifty-three second left in regulation to send the Blue Devils to the Championship game against Canandaigua on Wednesday. Leading the scoring for Victor (15-3) were Devin Livingston (3g), Maia Pronti (1a), Allie Pisano (1a), Morgan Livingston (1g), Camryn Adrid (1g), and Libby Boland (1g). In the goal for Victor was senior Maggie Allen with 6s/4ga = 60% (48 mins). Wayne vs MercySPENCERPORT-6 at CANANDAIGUA-7 - In the other semifinal Class B game, top seeded Canandaigua edged out Spencerport (#4) by a one goal margin. Scoring for the Rangers were Molly Guzik (2g), Brooke Endres (3g), and Aria Pittman (1g). Guzik ends her scholastic career with 166g-124a in five years on the Varsity. She will move on to Syracuse University in the fall.   There was no report from Canandaigua (16-2) at post-time but the Grey Wolves will play Victor for the Class B Championship on Wednesday.      [ BOX SCORE

MERCY-8 at PENN YAN-9 - There were lots of milestone in the close game at Penn Yan this afternoon, Penn Yan Sophomore midfielder Bailey Cooper (5g-2a) scored five goals and two assists as she reached her 200th career goal. Mercy sophomore attacker Sydney Cook (1g) reached her 50th career goal and freshman goalie Elinor Meyer (7s) reached her 100th career save. Junior midfielder Krista Harnischfeger reached her 100th career draw control with her 4 wins for the Monarchs. Leading the scoring for Penn Yan (11-3) were Taylor Mullins (1g-2a), Maihue Miranda-Wiltberger (1g-2a), and Gianna Voigt (1g-1a). Leading the scoring for Mercy (7-7) were Mia Lusardi (3g), Lydia Malvaso (3a), Angelina Borrelli (1g-1a), Mia Quagrello (1g-1a), and Krista Harnischfeger (1g).      [ BOX SCORE

Mercy vs Penn YanMARCUS WHITMAN-11 at AQUINAS-17 -  In a high scoring game Freshman attacker Elizabeth Valentino (Aquinas) scored her first Varsity goal and Junior defender Hailee King (Marcus Whitman) scored her first Varsity goal. Leading the scoring for Aquinas (7-5) were Savannah Hinchcliffe (3g-1a), Alexandria Stacy (4g), Kessa Sangasy (2g), Lily Bell (2g), and Brynn Henry (1g-1a). Aquinas goalie Liz Tantalo recorded 4s/0ga = 100% (24 mins). Leading the scoring for Marcus Whitman were Aliysiah Clark (5g), Helen Snyder (1g-2a), (2g-1a), and Raegan Weissinger (1g).
