Looking Back
This week’s lacrosse action delivered thrilling finishes and dominant performances across 48 games. The most exciting matchups saw Bishop Kearney, Livonia-Avon-Geneseo, Pal-Mac, and Baldwinsville all securing dramatic overtime victories, while Victor mounted a late comeback to edge McQuaid Jesuit 11-10. Pittsford added another overtime thriller with a 12-11 win over Fayetteville-Manlius behind Avery Valenti’s seven-goal effort. Meanwhile, several teams showcased their firepower with decisive wins, including Wayne’s commanding 21-11 victory over Newark and JD’s 21-13 triumph over McQuaid Jesuit. The week also saw standout individual performances, such as Domenic Giangreco’s milestone 500 career faceoff wins and Penn Yan’s Teagan Fingar and Gananda’s Nick Falso earning Player of the Week honors. However, weather disruptions left some games suspended or postponed, adding uncertainty as the regular season nears its final stretch
Monday: Bishop Kearney Survives Overtime Thriller
Monday’s action featured five games, with Bishop Kearney and Haverling delivering the most thrilling matchup in a 10-9 overtime battle, decided by Dom D’Eletto’s game-winning goal. Haverling’s Gavin Price contributed five assists, while goalie McLane Stermole recorded an impressive 23 saves. Elsewhere, Mynderse-Romulus pulled away late to secure a 12-9 victory over Newark, Thomas dominated Greece Storm 14-1, Schroeder handled Churchville-Chili 12-4, and Brockport cruised past Batavia-Notre Dame 15-1.
Tuesday: A Night of Nail-Biters and Blowouts
With eight games played today, the spotlight was on two close battles. Wayne edged out Geneva 12-9 with a dominant third quarter, fueled by Mason Michel’s four-goal effort. Meanwhile, Mynderse-Romulus pulled away in the second half to secure a 14-8 victory over Marcus Whitman, with Griffin Hilimire leading the charge with six goals. Elsewhere, teams secured convincing wins, with Irondequoit, Pal-Mac, Midlakes, Bloomfield-Honeoye, and Pittsford all dominating their matchups. A reported game between Dryden and Waterloo remained unreported at post time.
Wednesday: Kearney Dominates in Non-League Victory
Of the ten games played today, six were nail-biters, with thrilling finishes and standout performances. Rush-Henrietta edged out Schroeder 8-7 after overcoming an early deficit, while Hilton held off Spencerport in a 13-11 contest. Victor mounted a dramatic comeback, scoring five goals in the final quarter to secure an 11-10 win over McQuaid Jesuit. Schroeder at RH Brockport never let up, maintaining control in a 12-9 victory over Gates Chili, while HFL surged late to pull away from East Aurora 16-9. Fairport broke open a close battle with Thomas to claim a 7-3 win. The remaining four matchups saw decisive victories, including Brighton, Churchville-Chili, Aquinas, and Waterloo dominating their opponents with strong performances across the board.
Thursday: Thrillers & Dominance: A Day of High-Stakes Action
There were eight intense matchups, with five games going down to the wire. Livonia-Avon-Geneseo edged out Mynderse-Romulus 14-13 in a thrilling overtime battle, powered by six goals from Max McEnerney and a decisive game-winner from freshman Will Schweitzer. Pal-Mac pulled off a dramatic 12-11 overtime victory against Geneva after Jackson Dennie’s seventh goal sealed the deal. Canandaigua roared back from an early deficit to defeat Penfield 9-6, while Gananda outlasted Marcus Whitman 12-10 in a tightly contested showdown. Midlakes also staged a comeback to secure a 14-11 win over Bloomfield-Honeoye. Meanwhile, in dominant fashion, Wayne rolled past Newark 21-11, Penn Yan controlled Clarence 18-12, and East United-Eastridge stormed past Batavia 16-1 to round out the action-packed day.
Friday: Thrilling Finishes and Dominant Performances
Seven games were played today, with one providing nail-biting drama. Pittsford edged out Fayetteville-Manlius in an overtime thriller, securing a 12-11 victory behind Avery Valenti’s seven-goal showcase and Jahyden Maiorani’s clutch game-winner. Meanwhile, Marcus Whitman, Mynderse-Romulus, Irondequoit, Thomas, Brighton, and Newark dominated their respective matchups, displaying offensive firepower and defensive prowess across the board. The Players of the Week were announced with Penn Yan midfielder Teagan Fingar and Gananda goalie Nick Falso honored.
Saturday: Close Calls and Strong Performances Mark Saturday
Saturday’s lacrosse action featured 10 games, with seven decided by narrow margins. Baldwinsville pulled off a dramatic 9-8 overtime victory against Canandaigua, handing the previously unbeaten team its first loss of the season. Niskayuna also edged Victor 9-8 in a tight non-league matchup. JD secured a 21-13 win over McQuaid Jesuit, where junior Domenic Giangreco reached 500 career faceoff wins. Rush-Henrietta dominated Newark 16-2 before the game ended early due to the weather. Midlakes overcame an early deficit to defeat Gananda 15-8. Meanwhile, Wayne’s game against Bloomfield-Honeoye was suspended in the third quarter, and several other games were postponed or affected by thunderstorms, leaving their rescheduling uncertain with only one week remaining in the regular season.
Looking Ahead
This is the last week of regular season games and there are twenty-seven games scheduled, leading up to Thursday when the seeding for the four tournaments will be determined. Round 1 games will be played on Saturday where there will be four games in class B and one in class D. Quarterfinal games will be played in all four classes on May 27th.
Monday kicks off with five games, including L-A-G at Churchville-Chili.
Tuesday has Brighton at Fairport, McQuaid Jesuit and Irondequoit, Victor at Hilton, and Aquinas at Penfield are among the interesting lineups.
Wednesday has six games scheduled including the Lakers at Marcus Whitman, and Canandaigua at Pittsford.
Thursday marks the end of the regular season. The "seeding team" will be waiting for scores before they can figure the tournament rankings.
On Friday, no games are scheduled.
Saturday marks the start of the tournaments with Round 1 games in classes B and D.
