2016-04-28 - After a relatively close opening half, Honeoye Falls-Lima scored five unanswered goals to take control of the game over Canandaigua.  Although the Braves never gave up, HFL won 11-7.  The Cougars held a three goal lead for the entire second half; every time the Braves attempted a comeback the Cougars scored to keep strong control.

Caitlin Muir was impressive as always.  She finished the game with 4g-2a and was a part of all five first half goals for HFL.  In the first 15 minutes, both teams played a close contest.  Canandaigua scored the first goal on an 8 meter shot from Natalie Gwynn.  The cougars scored back to back goals to take the lead.  Muir assisted Brittany Chamberlain with 20:24 remaining.  Four minutes later, she scored on an unassisted drive from behind the cage.  The Braves struck back to tie the game for the second time with a pass from Peyton Smith to Cayla Clement.  The Braves did not score again for 15 minutes (into the second half).  The Cougars added three more goals to finish the half and two more to start the second half.

Muir scored with a drive from behind; followed quickly by a fast-break goal with Muir scoring off a feed from Payton Reed.  The final goal of the half was an inside feed from Muir to Paige Smith.  The Cougars led 5-2 at halftime.  Coming out of halftime, Kierin Ratliff had an 8 meter shot, where she fed to Bailey Reed on the crease.  One minute later, Muir scored on another drive from behind the cage for her 4th and final goal.

The Braves attempted their first comeback with two goals to cut the lead to three (7-4).  Emily Reals scored on fast-break with 20:19 remaining (this was the first time in the half that Canandaigua had the ball on offense).  Five minutes later they scored again.  The play began with strong defensive work from Baylee Ojeda and Maddie Groff.  They worked together to strip the ball from HFL and move it up field to Morgan Szczepkowski who scored.  The Cougars kept their heads and scored three more goals to re-take control of the game.  Ratliff scored the first and Chamberlain scored the next two.

Canandaigua's second attempt to comeback with three goals in less than three minutes.  Reals scored the first off an 8 meter shot.  Next was an inside feed from Clement to Smith.  The final goal for the Braves was another 8 meter shot, this time from Ojeda.  The Cougars slowed the ball down to run time off the clock, but scored with 0:05 remaining in the game.  Chamberlain scored with an assist from Ratliff.

Both teams finished at 50% draw control (winning 10 each).  Maria Villanti (4), Chamberlain (3) and Muir (3) controlled the draws for HFL.  For Canadaigua, five different players finished with 2 each: Tori Blazey, Clement, Szczepkowski, Gwynn and Smith.  Blazey, a junior midfielder, played a strong defensive game for Cougars and had a number of interceptions.  She was also quite demonstrative at clearing the ball for the Braves.  In the cage for Canandaigua, Cassidy King finished with five saves.  HFL's Jessica Apthrope recorded three saves.
