Friday: Brighton over Fairport in OT

Some of the nine games that were played on Friday were mismatches, but Brighton used overtime to defeat Fairport and Penfield beat Spencerport 5-4.

BISHOP KEARNEY 10 - MARCUS WHITMAN 13 - Marcus Whitman improved to 2-2 with a 13-10 victory over Bishop Kearney, who was playing their first game of the season tonight.  Hannah Blaker saved 8 shots for the Wildcats and Olivia Herod was the dominant force on the offensive side of the ball scoring 6 goals and dishing out 1 assist, and also contributed in transition by leading the team with 5 GBs.  Helen Snyder (1g-2a) also scored three points in the game.  The game was all even at the half, but Whitman outscored the Kings 8-5 in the second half to take home the W.  There was no book reported for Bishop Kearney at time of post.   [BOXSCORE]

RUSH-HENRIETTA 11 - IRONDEQUOIT 3 - Junior Avery Roberts (3g-1a, 5 D/C's) led Rush Henrietta to a convincing 11-3 win over Irondequoit.  8th Grader Kate Dewald (1g-3a) also scored 4 points for the Royal Comets, while Catrina Rowe (2g-1a) and Danielle Garrett (2g-1a) each made their presence felt with identical stat lines.  Catrina Rowe also collected the most GB’s for Rush Henrietta with 3.  RH improves to 5-0 with the Win, and Irondequoit falls to 1-3.  There was no book reported for Irondequoit at time of post.   [BOXSCORE]

WATERLOO 3 -AQUINAS 8 - Aquinas remained undefeated on the season by beating Waterloo by a score of 8-3 this evening.  The result improves Aquinas’ record to 3-0, while Waterloo falls to 1-2.  A balanced attack from Aquinas helped them obtain the victory, and 6 different players came away with multi-point games.  Gianna Leonardi (1g-3a) was the lead distributor in the game, while Sienna Hinchcliffe (3g) was the leading scorer, posting a Hat Trick.  Mackenna Brown was also a force for Aquinas, finishing the game with 2 goals and 1 assist.  Waterloo hung in the game behind an impressive 18 save performance by Goalie Dana Jolly, and the scoring of Marissa Russell (2g) and Maci Mueller (1g-1a).   [BOXSCORE]

HOMER 14 - PENN YAN 6 - Penn Yan traveled out of Section tonight to face Homer at Homer, and lost 14-6 to bring their record to 0-2 on the young season.  The team was led offensively by a blend of youth and experience as Seniors Kaley Griffin (2g) and Avery Castner (1g-1a) each scored 2 points, as did Freshman Corinne Barden (1g-1a), and 8th Grader Bailey Cooper (2g).  Penn Yan will look for their first win of the season when they host Ithaca next Monday in another non-Section V match-up.  [BOXSCORE]

EASTRIDGE 12 - GANANDA-MARION 1 - Eastridge pounded Gananda-Marion 12-1 tonight to collect their first win of the season.  The bulk of the scoring came from two players as Senior Skye Gaudio (6g-1a) scored seven points, and Freshman Ada Krupa (4g-1a) added a five-point performance.  Krupa was also prolific all over the field tonight earning 9 Draw Controls, scooping up 5 GB’s, and Causing 6 Turnovers for the Lancers.  There was no book reported for Gananda-Marion at time of post.   [BOXSCORE]

FAIRPORT 9 - BRIGHTON10 OT - In an exciting seesaw contest at Fairport, Brighton defeated the Red Raiders 10-9 in overtime. The Bruins battled back from a 6-1 first-half deficit with seven unanswered goals, and later survived the last 10 seconds of regulation when an apparent Fairport goal was disallowed.  Brighton improves to 4-1 on the season.  Katie Mallaber (4g) and Ella Peers (3g/2a) led the scoring for Fairport.  Ava Peers collected five draw controls.  The Red Raiders are now 3-2.  There were no statistics reported from Brighton at post time.    [BOXSCORE]

HILTON 5 - MERCY 9 - Mercy earned its first win of the season, defeating Hilton by a score of 9-5.  Ava LaRocco scored three goals for the Monarchs.  Madeleine Fitzgerald contributed four draw controls.  Mercy hosts Schroeder on Saturday morning.  Hilton is at home against Honeoye Falls-Lima on Tuesday.  There were no statistics reported from Hilton at post time. PENFIELD 5 - SPENCERPORT 4 - Penfield edged Spencerport, 5-4.  It was the Patriots’ second win of the season against three losses.  Penfield’s next game is a non-league match at Skaneateles.   For the Rangers, who travel to Schroeder for a game Monday evening, Livia Fedele recorded two goals, and Molly Guzik had two draw controls and picked up four ground balls. Spencerport is 1-4.  There were no statistics reported from Penfield at post time.  [BOXSCORE]

THOMAS 19 - HF-L 11 - Thomas defeated Honeoye Falls-Lima by a score of 19-11.  With the win, Thomas evened its record at 2-2.Addison Schaeffer led the Titans with 3g-4a. The Titans play host to Fairport on Monday.  Honeoye Falls-Lima falls to 3-2.  The Cougars’ next game is at Hilton on Tuesday.   There were no statistics reported from HF-L at post time.   [BOXSCORE]
