Saturday Showdowns: A Full Day of Action"

DAY IN REVIEW: SATURDAY - Saturday’s matchups featured 13 games, with several nail-biters stealing the spotlight. Mercy edged Baldwinsville 10-9, with Mia Quagrello scoring her 100th career goal and Elinor Meyer recording her 200th career save. Allie Pisano had three goals for Victor but the Blue Devils lost to CNS by a score of 14-10. Churchville-Chili dropped a close game to Horseheads 13-10, despite five goals from Campbell Hewlett. Brighton fell to Skaneateles 12-8, and Geneva outscored Mynderse-Romulus 17-11, fueled by Allison Marquart’s three goals and five assists. The remaining games featured more lopsided results, including Pal-Mac extending its winning streak to seven with a decisive 19-4 win over Williamsville South. 

GENEVA-17 at MYNDERSE-ROMULUS-11 - Geneva earned its ninth win of the season. Allison Marquart led Geneva with three goals and five assists. Geneva's Maddie Askin had eight saves. Myah Herron had eight goals for Mynderse-Romulus.    [ Story and BOX SCORE

Decisive Wins and Close Calls

DAY IN REVIEW: FRIDAY - It was an action-packed day with seven games played. Greece Storm edged Gates Chili 12-10 behind Erica Savage’s four goals and Ava Torrence’s 14 saves. Rush-Henrietta narrowly defeated Spencerport 11-10, extending its Penfield at Mercyunbeaten streak against Spencerport to 12 games. Meanwhile, Fairport, Geneva, Pal-Mac, Penfield, and Eastridge/BK all had dominant wins, featuring several milestone achievements including Lily Boesel's 100th career draw control for Pal-Mac, Peyton Rothfuss's 150th career goal for Penfield, and Camryn DuBose's 100th career goal and 50th career assist for Fairport. 

GATES CHILI-10 at GREECE STORM-12 - Erica Savage led the Storm with four goals and two assists. Haley Duxbury added two goals and three assists, and Ava Torrence had 14 saves to help secure the win.    [ Story and BOX SCORE

Penn Yan Survives Overtime Thriller

DAY IN REVIEW: THURSDAY - [UPDATED] Ruby Berry scored the game-winning goal in overtime as Penn Yan slipped past Honeoye Falls-Lima 11-10. In the only other game played today, Mynderse-Romulus cruised past Gananda-Marion 17-5, powered by standout performances from Myah Herron (4g) and Chelsea Korzeniewski (3g/7a).

WEDNESDAY – Late Game Drama Defines the Day

DAY IN REVIEW: WEDNESDAY - Today’s 13-game slate brought some thrilling finishes, including Victor’s nail-biting 11-10 win over Penfield, secured in the final seconds, and Hilton’s milestone 12-11 victory over Thomas, marking its first-ever win over its Webster rival. Rush-Henrietta mounted a second-half comeback to defeat Canandaigua 10-8. Wayne achieved its first-ever win over Waterloo with an 11-10 victory. Irondequoit remained undefeated against Schroeder all-time with an 11-8 win, and Greece Storm posted a strong 16-12 performance against Brockport. Marcus Whitman, Churchville-Chili, Pal-Mac, Fairport, Pittsford, Livonia-Avon-Geneseo, and Eastridge/BK all added convincing wins, rounding out the day's games.

Thrillers, Dominance, and Overtime Magic

DAY IN REVIEW: MONDAY - Monday’s matchups delivered nail-biting finishes, lopsided victories, and everything in between. Spencerport outlasted Thomas 11-10 in overtime, while Irondequoit edged Brighton 10-9 in another OT showdown. Victor held off Canandaigua 9-7 in a tightly contested battle, and Rush-Henrietta pulled away in the third quarter to defeat Pittsford 14-11. A total of 14 games were played across the region, with commanding wins from Pal-Mac, Eastridge/BK, Mercy, and Honeoye Falls-Lima.

AQUINAS-WOIS-5 at PAL-MAC-21 - Pal-Mac defeated Aquinas-WOIS 21-5 in a non-league game. Brinn Castrechini led Pal-Mac with six goals. Tessa Camelo had nine saves for Pal-Mac. Alexandria Stacy had four goals for Aquinas-WOIS.     [ Story and BOX SCORE

2024 Season Wrap Up

There were thirty teams playing Varsity Girls Lacrosse in Section V. There were 688 players on the final rosters. Brockport carried the largest roster with thirty-one players and Waterloo-Marcus Whitman had the smallest with fourteen. 

Victor ChampsThere were four classes for the sectional tournaments. Penfield (A), Canandaigua (B), and Mercy (C) and Penn Yan (D) were the top seeded teams.

Fairport beat Rush-Henrietta and Pittsford for their championship. Second-seeded Victor beat Thomas and then Brighton before defeating top-seeded Canandaigua for the Class B Championship. In Class C, Mercy beat Wayne and then HFL in a close game to claim their championship while in Class D, Penn Yan beat Marcus Whitman, Aquinas/WOIS, and Pal-Mac for their title.

The teams were able to play a full season again in 2024. The first games were played on March 25th with Hilton, Spencerport and Schroeder winning their openers. The last regular season game was played on May 16th when Canandaigua defeated Churchville-Chili.

The 262 regular season games were played and the 138 league games determined the league championships.

Fairport Champs

At the end of the year, the Section V Head Coaches selected the post-season award winners including their All-League players. Then they selected five USA Lacrosse All-Americans and five All-Academics. Named All-Americans were Reagan Diehl (Pal-Mac), Ella Peers (Fairport), Devin Livingston (Victor), Hanna Davis (Canandaigua), and Molly Guzik (Spencerport).

Named All-Academics were Alli Chimenti (Wayne), Katie Mallaber (Fairport), Alyssa Nichols (Spencerport), Angelia Oechsle (Rush-Henrietta), and Lucy Lederman (Brighton).

Honeoye Falls-Lima Head Coach Kevin O`Connell was named Coach of the Year from Section V and the Jackie Pitts Award winner was Zoe Baase from Brockport.

Victor Champs

After the regular season, the Section V tournaments were conducted. Fairport (Class A), Victor (Class B), Mercy (Class C) and Penn Yan (Class D) were the Sectional Champions in 2024.

The New York State Tournaments were back in full swing and sectional champions went on to play Section VI champions in the Western Regionals (quarter finals).

In Class A, Fairport beat Lancaster (12-7) and then defeated Massapequa (Section VIII) 10-9, taking them to the finals where they lost to Cicero-North Syracuse (Section III) 12-8.HFL Champs

In Class B, Victor beat Clarence (Section VI) by a score of 22-0. They then beat West Islip (Section XI) 11-10 and defeated West Genesee (Section III) 16-8 to win their third Class B NYS Championship in a row.

In Class C, Our Lady of Mercy won their game against Lake Shore of Section VI 17-8 but then lost to Sayville (Section XI) by a score of 13-8 in the semifinals. Penn Yan beat Gowanda (Section VI) 17-4 before losing to Cold Spring Harbor (Section VIII) 18-4 in the semifinals.

By the end of the season at least sixty-four players had made college commitments. They will become part of over three hundred players from Section V who are currently playing at all college levels.
