Penfield Defeats CNS, Advances to NYS Class A Final

Penfield won an exciting class A semifinal contest Friday at SUNY Cortland, defeating CNS (Section III) by a score of 13-10. Penfield never trailed in the game, and had a lead of 12-7 midway through the fourth quarter before CNS scored three late goals to narrow the margin of victory. It was the Patriots' ninth win in a row. With the win, Penfield gained a measure of payback for an overtime loss to the Northstars earlier this season. Prior to today's game, CNS was ranked first among NYS class A teams and third among NYS teams overall by Laxnumbers.com.

Peyton Rothfuss led the scoring for Penfield with five goals and two assists; she was also essential in helping to mitigate the Northstars' power in the draw circle. Jenna Capozzi (4g/2a) recorded the 50th assist of her varsity career. Avery Fordham had two goals and an assist, and Emma Alexander and Olivia Lanning each scored once. Goalie Karis Hand was outstanding, finishing with 10 saves, including the 300th of her career, for a 50% save rate in 48 minutes of play.

The Patriots now move on to the NYS class A finals for the first time since 2018. They will play Suffern (Section I) for the championship on Saturday, June 14 at 11:30 a.m. at SUNY Cortland.     [ Story and BOX SCORE
