Semi-Final Match-ups

The Semi-Final matches will be played over the next two days.  In all four tournaments that top 4 seeds advanced to the semi-finals. Class B and Class D will play on May 26th at Pittsford Sutherland and Eastridge. Class A and Class C will play on May 27th at HFL and Schroeder.

After the first night of games, both #1 seeds were defeated by the #4 seeds.  Penn Yan avenged their earlier loss in the regular season with a 13-6 win over top seeded Waterloo and Thomas avenged their overtime loss to Brighton in the regular season with an 8-6 win.  The #2 seeds (Canandaigua and Pal-Mac) both advanced.  The Braves will face the Titans and the Red Raiders will face the Mustangs on Tuesday May 30th.

CLASS A:

Class A will final join the rest of the Tournament with their first games on May 27th at HFL. Pittsford (vs. Fairport) will play first at 11:00 and Rush-Henrietta (vs. Penfield) will play second at 1:00.  Both Semi-Final matchups are repeats of overtime matches during the regular season.

#1 Pittsford vs. #4 Fairport

During the regular season, Pittsford defeated Fairport 6-5 in overtime (HERE).  It was the first game of the season for Pittsford and the second for Fairport.  Historically, Pittsford has defeated Fairport 18/24 times that they have faced since 2005.  The last Fairport win was in 2009.  Pittsford defeated Fairport 14-2 to advance.  When updated, additional stats will be HERE.

#2 Rush-Henrietta vs. #3 Penfield

PenDuring the regular season, Penfield defeated R-H 7-6 in overtime (HERE).  Historically, the teams have split since 2005 with both teams winning 11/22 matches.  The Royal Comets defeated Penfield last year for the first time since 2012, the Patriots have won 5 of the last 6 matchups.  Penfield defeated R-H 10-5 to advance.  When updated, additional stats will be HERE.

 

CLASS B:

Class B continues their tournament on May 26th at Pittsford Sutherland.  Top seeded Brighton vs. fourth seeded Thomas will play first at 5:00 and second seeded Canandaigua will face third seeded Spencerport at 7:00.  Much like Class A, both matchups are repeats of single point games earlier in the season.

#1 Brighton vs. #4 Thomas

RLTComing into the semi-finals, Brighton defeated Irondequoit 9-6 (HERE) and Thomas defeated Victor 12-8 (HERE).  During the regular season, Brighton defeated Thomas 5-4 (HERE).  Historically, Brighton leads 12-1 since 2005, with the lone Titan win coming in 2015.  Thomas defeated Brighton 8-6 to advance. #2 Canandaigua vs. #3 Spencerport

CAComing into the semi-finals, Canandaigua defeated Schroeder 11-7 (HERE) and Spencerport defeated Churchville-Chili 15-2 (HERE).  During the regular season, Spencerport defeated Canandaigua 10-9 (HERE).  Historically, the teams have only faced 3 times with the Braves winning the first two matchups before the Rangers won earlier this season.  Canandaigua defeated Spencerport 12-6 to advance.  Spencerport was led in scoring by Erin Coykendall with 2g-3a.  The Braves scored the first three goals of the game and the Rangers never forced a tie.  Megan Hoffman recorded 3g-1a to lead the Braves.  Natalie Gwynn recorded six groundballs. CLASS C:

Top seeded Mercy and second seeded HFL finally join the tournament with their first matches.  The Class C Tournament continues on May 27th at Webster Schroeder; Mercy (vs. Wayne) will play at 11:00 and HFL (vs. Geneva) will play at 1:00.  Unlike Class A and B, the Class C Semi-Final teams did not face each other during the regular season.

#1 Mercy vs. #4 Wayne

This is Mercy's opening game of the tournament.  Wayne defeated Newark 9-4 (HERE), for their first Section win in program history.  The two teams did not face during the regular season and there is no record (since 2005) that they have faced each other.  Mercy defeated Wayne 18-5 to advance.  Leading in scoring for Wayne was Jillian Pembroke with 3g.  For Mercy, Izzy Stockman (4f-3a), Sami Carey (4g-3a) and Caroline Murphy (3g-3a) led. #2 HFL vs. #3 Geneva

HFLThis is HFL's opening game of the tournament.  Geneva defeated Eastridge 14-6 (HERE).  The two teams did not face during the regular season and have only faced each other a single time since 2005.  The Cougars won 15-7 back in the 2013 Sectional Semi-Finals.  HFL defeated Geneva 16-2 to advance.  The Cougars were led in scoring by Kierin Ratliff (3g-2a).  Caitlin Muir led in draw controls with five.  Additional stats are HERE.

 

CLASS D:

Class D continues their tournament on May 26th at Eastridge.  Top seeded Waterloo faces fourth seeded Penn Yan at 7:00 and second seeded Pal-Mac faces third seeded Aquinas at 5:00.

#1 Waterloo vs. #4 Penn Yan

PYComing into the semi-finals, Waterloo defeated Gananda 16-3 (HERE) and Penn Yan defeated Mynderse 16-6 (HERE).  During the regular season, Waterloo defeated Penn Yan 11-7 (HERE).  Historically, Penn Yan leads the series 13-7.  The Indians win earlier in the year broke a four game streak by the Mustangs.  Penn Yan defeated Waterloo 13-6 to advance.  For Waterloo, Logan Castiglione led in scoring with 3g.  Hannah Keech led in scoring with 4g-1a for the Mustangs.  Additional stats are HERE.

#2 Pal-Mac vs. #3 Aquinas

Coming into the semi-finals, Pal-Mac defeated Livonia 20-3 (HERE) and Aquinas defeated Marcus Whitman 13-10 (HERE).  During the regular season, the teams did not face.  Historically, Pal-Mac has won all 10 matchups since 2005.  Pal-Mac defeated Aquinas 16-9 to advance.  The Red Raiders were led in scorng by Emma Arnold with 1g-7a.  Anna Leva recorded 4g-3a.
