Finals Match-ups

Canandaigua VictoryThe Sectional Finals will be played over the next two days. Class B and Class D will play first on Tuesday May 30th at Pittsford Sutherland. With Canandaigua vs. Thomas starting at 5:00 and Pal-Mac vs, Penn Yan starting at 7:00.  Class C and Class A will play second on Wednesday May 31st at Webster Schroeder.  With Mercy vs. HFL starting at 5:00 and Pittsford vs. Penfield starting at 7:00.

CLASS A:

PitClass A will feature the #1 seeded Pittsford Panthers vs. the #3 seeded Penfield Patriots.  Pittsford defeated Fairport 14-2 to reach the finals (HERE) and Penfield defeated RH 10-5 (HERE). The Patriots and the Panthers did not face this season. Historically, Penfield has defeated Pittsford 14-10 since 2005.  However, the Panthers have won the last three contests.  

Pittsford defeated Penfield 6-3.  This is the fourth consecutive win for the Panthers and sixth win since 2006.  Pittsford became the second Section Five Team to have their boys and girls teams win Sectional Titles. When updated, the score and additional stats will be HERE.

CLASS B:

CAClass B will feature the #2 seeded Canandaigua Braves vs. the #4 seeded Webster Thomas Titans.  Canandaigua defeated Spencerport 12-6 (HERE) and Schroeder 11-7 (HERE) to reach the finals.  Thomas defeated Brighton 8-6 (HERE), Victor 12-8 (HERE) and Gates-Chili 17-1 (HERE). The Braves and the Titans faced a close match earlier in the season with Canandaigua winning 12-11 (HERE).  Historically, Canandaigua leads 6-5 since 2005.

Canandaigua wins their first Sectional Title since 2012 with an 11-6 win over Thomas.  The game was back and forth for a half with both teams leading and the score tied at each step.  Going into halftime the score was tied 6-6 before the Braves scored five unanswered goals in the second half.  Tournament MVP was awarded to Canandaigua goalie Cassidy King, who finished with 10 recorded saves (63%).  Additional stats are HERE.

CLASS C:

HFLClass C will feature the #1 seeded Mercy Monarchs vs. the #2 seeded HFL Cougars.  Mercy defeated Wayne 18-5 (HERE) to reach the finals and HFL defeated Geneva 16-2 (HERE).    The Monarchs and the Cougars did not face during the regular season.  Historically, HFL has won the 3 times they have faced since 2005.  The last meeting was in 2014 when HFL won 11-10.  

HFL defeated Mercy 19-7 to win their sixth straight Sectional Title and ninth since 2006.  Class C All Tournament MVP Caitlin Muir led in scoring with 5g-4a.  Brittany Chamberlain added another 3g-3a for the Cougars. Additional stats are HERE.

CLASS D:

PMClass D will feature the #2 seeded Pal-Mac Red Raiders vs. the #4 seeded Penn Yan Mustangs.  Pal-Mac defeated Aquinas 16-9 (HERE) and Livonia 20-3 (HERE) to reach the finals.  Penn Yan defeated Waterloo 13-6 (HERE) and Mynderse 16-9 (HERE).  During the regular season, Pal-Mac defeated Penn Yan 12-7 (HERE).  Historically, Penn Yan leads 12-4 since 2005.  The Red Raiders have won the last 2 contests.  

Pal-Mac led 13-2 at the half on their way to a 16-5 win over Penn Yan.  The Red Raiders were led by Emma Arnold with 4g-4a.  Defensively, goalie Sophia Leva was named All Tournament MVP and finished with 6 saves.  In addition to the girls winning the Sectional Title, the Pal-Mac boys also brought home the Sectional Title with a 16-11 win over HFL (HERE).  Additional stats for the Girl's win are HERE.

AT THE STATE LEVEL:

Section Five plays Section Six in the first round of the state tournament.  The Sectional Title Games for Section Six will not be played until Wednesday May 31st and Thursday June 1st.  

On June 1st in Class A, #1 seed Frontier vs. #2 seed Lancaster.  Frontier defeated Lancaster 8-7 to advance.
On May 31st in Class B, #1 seed Hamburg vs. #2 seed Niagara-Wheatfield.  Hamburg defeated Niagara-Wheatfield 8-5 to advance.
On May 31st in Class C, #1 seed Lake Shore vs. #2 seed West Seneca East.  Lake Shore defeated West Seneca East 16-9 to advance.
On June 1st in Class D, #1 seed East Aurora vs. #2 seed Eden.  East Aurora defeated Eden 10-4 to advance.
