Penn Yan Wins Class D
No. 1 Penn Yan defeated No. 2 Waterloo 17-5 in the class D finals at the University of Rochester. Bailey Cooper led Penn Yan with five goals and one assist and was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player. Miley Andersen and Makenna Mullins each added three goals. In all, nine players scored for the Mustangs, including ninth-grader Sofia Montano, whose goal was the first of her varsity career. Maihue Miranda-Wiltberger won 17 draw controls to help secure the win.
For Waterloo, Kinsley Bree had two goals and an assist. Bailey Rossignol, Ava Ruiz, and Maci Mueller scored one goal apiece, and Peyton Lyons recorded six saves. The Tigers finish their season with a record of 10-7.
With the win, the Mustangs move on to the sub-regionals Thursday at Williamsville South HS, where they will take on Eden (section VI).
