Coykendall Leads Spencerport

Spenc vs. RLTEmily Coykendall was a part of all six first quarter goals in Spencerport's 12-8 win over Webster Thomas.  The Rangers led 6-2 at the half and held off the late advance by the Titans.  Thomas scored five out of six straight goals near the end of the second half (the final goal of the game was an open net goal for the Rangers).

The defining factor of the first half was ball control.  The Rangers finished the first half winning all nine draw controls.  Additionally, the Titans had difficulty clearing the ball from their defense to their offense.  The Titans did not get their first possession until 7 minutes into the game and had less than half a dozen possessions in the entire first half.  Spencerport spent a huge amount of time on offense and took 15 shots in the first half.  Senior goalie Haley Barrett finished the game with nine saves (eight in the first half) for the Titans.  Included in the count were three 8m free position shots.  Barrett kept the game close and did not allow the Ranger offense to get the game too far out of hand.

Emily Coykendall demonstrated again why she is an impressive player throughout Section Five.  She scored four goals throughout the contest, three of which were single drives at the cage from behind.  She worked her way up the right side of the cage looking to feed (she also finished with 2a) before cutting inside the defense to the cage.  The opening goal of the game was scored 1:12 into the contest with Erin Coykendall assisting Emily with a feed from behind the cage.  The next goal was scored by Camryn Sack on the crease off a feed from Emily.  Thomas got their first offensive possession around 18:11 when Nicole Voci scored off an inside feed from Mary Soures.  Emily found Natalie Choate on the crease for her second assist less than one minute later.  The Titans kept up their pressure and scored their second goal from Molly McCabe.  McCabe found the back of the cage of a dodge after receiving a pass from Emily Glagolev.  Glagolev had scooped up the loose ball following up her own saved shot seconds before.  Emily Coykendall added her three unassisted goals to finish out the half and give the Rangers a 6-2 lead going into the half.

The beginning of the second half continued with Spencerport's offensive scoring.  The Rangers scored four of the first five before Thomas took over the scoring in the final part of the half.  The first four shots from Spencerport were all goals.  Choate and Sack each added two goals.  After Sack's second goal the Titans called a timeout and settled down the pace.  After coming out of the timeout, Thomas scored five of the next six to pull the game within three.  Voci had two more impressive goals in the second half, the first was a strong single player effort where she drove from behind the cage and scored.  The second was off an inside feed from Soures.

In the second half, the draw controls were closer, but Spencerport still won another 8/13 to finish the game at 17/22.  Erin Coykendall recorded 8, Sack recorded 5 and Maliah Benedetto recorded 3.  For Thomas, Voci grabbed 2 draw controls with Glagolev, Grace Lagoner and Mackenzie Travis each recording one draw control.
