Oly/Arc Wins Games on Back to Back Days

Greece Olympia/Arcadia defeated Gates Chili 21-6 this afternoon to win their second matchup in two days.  Yesterday, they defeated Eastridge 18-6 (HERE).  The Lightning improve to 3-3 with tonight’s win.

Oly/Arc came out of the gate with offense and scored the opening two goals.  Savannah Smallidge scored both goals.  The first was scored off an 8m goal and the second was scored after a broken clear lead to fast-break.  Madison Bodnar assisted Smallidge for the latter goal.  The Spartans responded with their first goal 20 seconds later with an 8m goal of their own by Makayla Friery.  The Lightning kept up the pressure and increased their lead with three more goals.  One that stood out was a goal from Bodnar where she found her own loose ball after Gates-Chili’s Sarah Bready made a save on her first shot.

Bodnar’s second effort on the crease demonstrated how the Lightning played the entire contest.  They constantly went after down balls and sprinted up and down the field.  Even when the game went to running time, Oly/Arc kept up the intensity in their bench players.  Overall, they finished with eight players making the offensive book.  Senior attackman Sam Chiliano scored her first Varsity points with two assists in the second half and defenseman Kenzie Femiano scored her first Varsity goal with the final shot of the game off a fast-break.  Jazmine Darline finished with 10 draw controls for the Lightning.

Gates-Chili also never gave up on offense.  A standout goal was their second goal of the match.  Midfielder Julie Andrews had the ball behind the net.  She drove along the nearside and came around the defense to the flat before cutting back to the net.  In addition to the goal, she finished with 1 caused turnover, 2 groundballs and a draw control. Their second to last goal was scored off an inside feed from behind the cage by Becky Shust to Taylor Nathan.  The final goal was a free position goal from Makayla Friery.  Friery finished with 3g for the Spartans.  Shust recorded four draw controls for the Spartans to lead her team.
