Geneva Wins Third Straight

After falling to 0-4 to start the season, Geneva has won the last three.  Much like their first win over Livonia (HERE), the Panthers fought back from a deficit to secure the one goal win.  Geneva defeated Wayne 9-8 after trailing for a large portion of the second half.

Geneva scored the first goal of the game and led or tied for the first half.  Meghan Sands scored the opener off a feed from Lauren DeVaney.  Wayne tied the game for the first of four times with an unassisted goal from Jillian Pembroke.  The Panthers kept up their offensive pressure and increased their lead to 2 twice in the first half.  However, they could not keep the lead and Wayne fought back to a 5-5 tie at halftime.  Mary Panepento scored her lone goal of the night on a backhanded shot to finish the first half.

In the second half, Wayne added another two goals (four in a row total) to take their first lead of the game.  They led 7-5 with 17:53 remaining.  After taking the lead, Geneva scored four of the last five goals to comeback for the win.  Treasure Bruce scored two with Ellie Aliperti and Sands scored the other two.  Sands goal to take back the lead (and secure the win) was scored with 1:48 remaining off another assist from DeVaney.

Senior defenseman Bailey Jenkins recorded five draw controls to lead her team.  Panepento added another 2 draws along with eight groundballs and three caused turnovers.  Panepento currently leads her team in season totals in all three categories with 22 draw controls, 52 groundballs and 15 takes (caused turnovers).  Complete season totals for Wayne are HERE.
