Daly Leads Brockport with Six Goals

Brockport scored the first 13 goals in their 15-3 win over Eastridge.  The Blue Devils have won the last 12 times the teams have faced spanning 10 years.  The Blue Devils offense played a great game and controlled the pace of the game throughout.  Brockport finished with 16/20 draw controls.  This led to them re-gaining possession after scoring on multiple occasions and never giving the Lancers a shot on offense.

Additionally, the Blue Devil attack was relentless during the ride.  They would triple team the ball on multiple occasions to stop the clear.  Liz Schultheis, Christina Middleton, Natalie Vanorden and Cameryn Jessmer played much of the first half on attack and were key in the Blue Devil ride.  For Eastridge, midfielder Veronica Wojnowski played the entire contest between the pipes.  This was only her second Varsity game in the cage.  Just like last year, she stepped up when the Lancer's regular goalie was out for the game.  Today she finished with 14 saves.  Although she was just under 50%, she was a credit to the type of player that does whatever it takes to help her team.  The majority of her saves were close point blank saves that she stepped directly into to stop the shot for scoring.

The opening goal of the game was scored 1:15 into play off an 8m free position shot from Tori Lammes.  Lammes finished with 4g-3a for the Blue Devils.  The Blue Devils continued scoring with a drive from behind the cage from Erika Ruggieri.  Ruggieri took the majority of the draws in the first half and recorded 7 draw controls to lead her team.  Leah Daly scored the first of her 6g after a dodge around the crease.  The Blue Devils led 12-0 at halftime.

In the second half, Brockport scored the first goal with a drive straight to the cage by Daly.  One minute later, Eastridge scored their first goal.  Sofia Agurto-Munding fed the ball into Shannon Coffaro on the crease.  Both remaining Lancer goals were scored by Cherlyn Felle. The final Brockport goal of the game was scored by freshman Maddie Cherwonik.  Cherwonik scored with a fast-break drive down the left side of the field.  She also recorded a draw control on her first attempt of the game, grabbing her own ball from the center of the circle.
