Newark Scores Five Unanswered in Win

Newark scored five unanswered goals to turn the tide in their 10-7 win over Livonia.  The Reds led 9-3 at the largest lead, before Livonia scored four of the last five to pull within three.  Newark was led in scoring by Caitlin Chopan (3g-1a) and Claire DeBoover (1g-3a).  The Reds outshot the Bulldogs 24-15 and although Livonia goalie Emily Carr had a strong game with 9 saves, it was not enough for the Bulldogs.

Newark opened the scoring with an 8m goal from Chopan.  Livonia responded with back to back goal to take the lead.  Nicole Neyhart scored at the crease off a feed from Alli Evans behind the cage.  Just over 90 seconds later, Ellen O`Neil assisted Lauren Connor.  Newark scored the next five goals to go up 6-2 with less than one minute in the half.  Cara Walker scored the second Reds goal with a slow break and a straight drive to the goal.  DeBoover scored her first goal on a similar drive during an unsettled fast-break.  Chopan assisted Tiahna Downing for the fourth Newark goal.  The last two goals of the streak were scored by Grace Gajan with a drive down the left flank and a fast-break goal off a feed from DeBoover.  Livonia scored the final goal of the half with an 8m as time expired.  Newark led 6-3 at halftime.

The Reds added three more goals to start the second half.  Chopan (2) and Alycia Divebliss scored.  Even though Livonia trailed 9-3, the Bulldogs didn’t give up.  They scored four of the last five goals.  Ellen O`Neil scored three of those goals (including one off an 8m free position shot).  The final goals of the game was assisted by O`Neil and scored by Connor.

For Livonia, Connor led in draw controls with six.  Goalie Emily Carr finished with a team leading four groundballs in addition to her 9 saves.  For Newark, Chopan (3), Gajan (2) and Lynzee Havert (2) controlled the draw.  Chopan also recorded two caused turnovers for the Reds.  In the cage, Alexis Horn recorded 10 saves.
