Penn Yan Edges Canandaigua in Thrilling Match

Penn Yan narrowly defeated Canandaigua 9-8 in a non-league game on Saturday morning. Junior Ruby Berry led the way for Penn Yan with five goals, including the 50th goal of her varsity career. CA at Penn YanSupporting Berry were Bailey Cooper, who tallied two goals and an assist, and Makenna Mullins, who added two goals. Maihue Miranda-Wiltberger recorded seven draw controls for the Mustangs, whose record improves to 3-4. The win was Penn Yan's first over the Gray Wolves since 2007.

For Canandaigua, Leah Sheridan topped the scoresheet with three goals and an assist. Lola Schorr had two goals and an assist. Keira Gioseffi, Taylor Ennis-Chinn, and Samantha Lupton rounded out the scoring for the Gray Wolves. In goal, senior Aviana Nelson was a standout, making 12 saves. With the loss, Canandaigua's record drops to 3-2.

The Mustangs take to the road on Wednesday to face Ithaca (section IV), and the Gray Wolves host Thomas on Monday.
