Section V Girls Go 3-for-4 in Regionals
DAY IN REVIEW: SATURDAY - Saturday's girls' regional quarterfinals
produced another strong showing for Section V, with three of four teams advancing while HFL fell in heartbreaking fashion. Penn Yan rolled past Westhill 14-4 behind four goals from Bailey Cooper and a solid five-save effort from Megan Wheeler. Penfield edged West Genesee 12-11 to extend their winning streak to 14 games, and Victor cruised past Fayetteville-Manlius 16-8 for their sixth consecutive win.
The one painful result came in the Class C game, where HFL rallied from a three-goal halftime deficit to force overtime against JD, only to fall 10-9 in the extra period. The Cougars close out a memorable season at 14-6.
Penn Yan, Penfield, and Victor all advance to Friday's semifinal round, where Penfield faces Shaker (II) in Class A and Victor takes on Queensbury (II) in Class B. Penn Yan's semifinal opponent is yet to be announced.

NYS tournament wins against Section VI dating back to 2009. Penn Yan (18-1) led the way with Miley Anderson's five goals and Bailey Cooper's six assists, while HFL got five goals from Shaye Angelo and six assists from Emma Blythe. Penfield won their thirteenth straight and Victor continued their strong postseason run, though stats for both were unavailable at post time.
