POST SEASON TOURNAMENTS
Updated for 2017: After the regular season, there are several championship opportunities for teams that qualify. First up are the Section Five Tournaments for four classes (A-B-C-D).
End of Week #1
Only a single game was played in the first week of the 2017 season. With a number of games postponned due to weather, only Irondequoit vs. Baldwinsville was played this week. The Eagles trailed 8-4 at the half before finishing down 13-7. Bridget Inclema led the Eagles with 6g. Erika Sherwood added 1g-4a. Click here, for additional data.
First multi-game day in Section Five
Three more games were played today with Wayne winning a close game 7-5 over Eastridge, Mynderse defeating Newark 17-4 and Brighton topping Hilton 20-6. Tomorrow has another 3 games scheduled.
Sherwood's Feeds Give Irondequoit the Win
Erika Sherwood finished with four assists in Irondequoit's 7-6 win over Mercy tonight. Sherwood was the driving force behind the come from behind win. The Monarchs took an early 4-1 lead in the first half before the Eagles scored four unanswered goals (three assisted by Sherwood) to take the 5-4 lead less than 3 minutes into the second half. The Eagles continued to play solid defense and not take too many chances and held off Mercy's late attempts to tie the game.
Three More Games
Tonight there were three more games. Irondequoit defeated Mercy 7-6 in a comeback win. Aquinas defeated Arc/Oly 15-5 and RH travelled to West Genesee were the Wildcats won 11-6.
Smolensky Lead Brighton in Win
Kathryn Smolensky finished with 3g-2a in Brighton's 12-6 win over Penfield. The Barons scored ten goals straight before Penfield scored the final three goals during a single yellow card against Brighton. The Patriots came out of the gate strong and scored the opening two goals. Lindsay Hernady scored unassisted on fast-break goal only 0:26 into the contest. Two minutes later Chelsea Atkins fed the ball to a cutting Megan Motkowski to give the Patriots a 2-0 lead with 22:46 left in the first half. Brighton followed with two of their own. Rene Gangarosa assisted Smolensky for the opening goal and two minutes later Gangarosa scored unassisted. Her goal came after she picked up her own rebound directly on the crease and scored on the strong second effort. Penfield third goal was scored with Brighton's goalie out of position and Lucy Rugaber feeding across the cage to Madigan Lublin.
Four Games on Wednesday
With three scores in, Livonia defeated Midlakes 12-6, Mynderse defeated Greece Ath/Ody 11-5, Brighton defeated Penfield 12-6 and Newark defeated Eastridge 5-4.
Two Close Game of Three
Aquinas defeated Waterloo 9-8 in a close contest, RH defeated Mercy 9-8 and Schroeder defeated Gates Chili 17-3.
Two Games on Friday
Of the four games scheduled for today, two were postponed. Penn Yan hosted Lake Shore and fell to the Eagles 13-11. At this time, only the score was reported. Additional stats will be updated HERE.
