Gananda Looking for Games
The Gananda School District is looking for two varsity games for both the boys and the girls teams and two JV games for the girls team for this spring.
Coaching Openings for 2019
We have received the first request for coaching positions from schools in our Section. At this point there are openings at Canandaigua, Pittsford and Wayne. If more requests come in this page will be updated accordingly.
Webster Coach Chris Barnes is Mourned
It is with sadness that the lacrosse community recently heard of the passing of long-time Webster girls' lacrosse coach Chris Barnes.
1st Coaching Change - Boys and Girls at Hilton
Hilton Athletic Director Michael Giruzzi has announced that the Hilton Central School District is looking for Head Coaches for both the boys and the Girls programs. The job positing can be seen here.
2018 Monroe County - All League
The Monroe County League has released their 2018 All League awards. In total there were 53 1st Team picks and 51 2nd Team picks. In addition, each of the three divisions had a Player of the Year and Coach of the Year awards.
2018 All American Awards
Today, the Section released the 2018 All American and Academic All American Award winners. There were a total of 5 winners for each award in the Greater Rochester Region. Both All American and Academic All American awards were split with 4 coming from Monroe County and 1 coming from the Finger Lakes.
2018 Finger Lakes - All League
The Finger Lakes has released their 2018 All League Awards and Final Stadings. The Nine team division released 15 1st Team Awards, 15 2nd Team Awards and 17 3rd Team Awards. Additionally, Player of the Year honors were given to the top defenseman, attacker and midfielder. Waterloo's Andy Lee was named Coach of the Year.
2018 Herb Fitch Senior All Star Game
The Rochester Chapter of US Lacrosse has announced the 2018 Herb Fitch Lacrosse All Star Game player selections. This year`s contest, featuring some of the best of the graduating seniors will be held on Thursday, June 14th at Victor High School. The boys`game will start at 8:00 PM after the girls` play at 6:00 PM and the youth clinic which starts at 4:30.
State Finals
Section Five finished 0-3 in the State Finals with all three programs finishing as runner-up. Cold Spring Harbor defeated HFL 18-3, CBA defeated Penfield 10-5 and Manhasset defeated Brighton 6-4. This is the fifth time that the Cougars have finished as runner-up, the sixth time that the Barons have finished as runner-up and the second time the Patriots have finished as runner-up.
State Semi-Finals
Three Section Five Teams advanced to the State Finals tomorrow. After all four teams moved on to the State Semi-Finals, three of the four won today and will play for their respective State Titles tomorrow. In the first game this morning, HFL defeated Brewster 10-9. The second game found Bronxville defeating Pal-Mac 14-5. The third game featured Penfield forcing overtime and defeating North Rockland 9-8. The final game had Brighton defeating John Jay 17-7.
State Quarter Finals
The Section Five Class Champions faced off today against their counterparts from Section Six. At the end of the day, all four Section Five Champions moved on to the State Final Four. HFL defeated Lake Shore 12-7, Pal-Mac defeated Eden 17-3, Penfield defeated Lancaster 17-5 and Brighton defeated Frontier 18-1.
2018 Post Season
The Tournament has been completed and we have our Champions. In Class A, Penfield defeated RH. In Class B, Brighton defeated Spencerport in overtime. In Class C, HFL defended their Title and defeated Geneva. In Class D, Pal-Mac defending their Title and defeated Penn Yan. All four teams will represent Section Five in the State Tournament that begins on Saturday June 2nd at HFL.

With the conclusion of the Section Five Tournament. Each game had an All Tournament Team named. The Team consists of the top 13 players. There are 12 regular spots and 1 MVP.
Section Five Finals
Updated 05/29/2018 The Tournament has been completed and we have our Champions. In Class A, Penfield defeated RH. In Class B, Brighton defeated Spencerport in overtime. In Class C, HFL defended their Title and defeated Geneva. In Class D, Pal-Mac defending their Title and defeated Penn Yan. In addition to securing the Girl's Section Five Championship, the Penfield Patriots Boy's program also won the Class A Title.
Spencerport Scores in Final Minutes to Advance
Camryn Sack scored the game winning goal with 1:54 remaining in regulation off a feed from Erin Coykendall to give second seeded Spencerport the 11-10 win over seventh seeded Webster Schroeder. Earlier in the season, Spencerport also won their first matchup 12-8. Tonight, the Rangers relied on three players to score 17 out 18 points. Coykendall finished with 2g-5a to lead. Natalie Choate (5g) and Sack (3g-2a) finished with five points each.
Final Day of 2018 Regular Season
There were six games played tonight in the final day of the regular season. Brockport defeated Churchville-Chili 16-15 in the closest game of the night. Additional scores included Newark-Midlakes defeated Gananda 8-4, Pittsford defeated Hilton 18-2, Brighton defeated HFL 12-5, Marcus Whitman defeated Mynderse-Romulus 11-2 and Thomas defeated Irondequoit 10-5.
Out Bracket Games
Updated 5/20/18. There are three Out Bracket Games in Section Five this season. Class B has all three games. Due to scheduling conflicts this weekend, each game will be played on a different night. Friday night Thomas (6) hosts Gates-Chili (11). Saturday night Irondequoit (8) hosts Brockport (9). Sunday night Schroeder (7) hosts Churchville-Chili (10).
