Spencerport Scores in Final Minutes to Advance

- Camryn Sack scored the game winning goal with 1:54 remaining in regulation off a feed from Erin Coykendall to give second seeded Spencerport the 11-10 win over seventh seeded Webster Schroeder.  Earlier in the season, Spencerport also won their first matchup 12-8.  Tonight, the Rangers relied on three players to score 17 out 18 points.  Coykendall finished with 2g-5a to lead.  Natalie Choate (5g) and Sack (3g-2a) finished with five points each.

Spencerport came out early and scored five of the first seven goals to lead 5-2 only 10 minutes into the game.  The Warriors never gave up and started a comeback that took 25 minutes.  Haley Bolton and Abby Moon scored back to back goals to pull within a single goal.  Both teams continued to alternate goals going into halftime.  Schroeder’s Moon scored the final goal of the half and kept the score within one (7-6).

In the second half, Schroeder took control of the game and scored four of the first hive.  Kelsey Nelson scored three of the four goals with Annie Mulhall scoring the fourth.  Payton Lill assisted on two of the four goals.  With 9:22 remaining in the contest, Schroeder held a 10-8 lead.  The second seeded Rangers never gave up.  Sack scored with 8:33 followed quickly by Coykendall at 7:22 to tie the game at 10-10.  With three minutes remaining, sophomore goalie Jorden Concordia made a great save to give the Warrior another change on offense; however, they could not convert.  The ball came back to the Ranger offense and Sack (assisted by Coykendall) scored the game winning goal with 1:54 remaining.

Schroeder seniors Madison Bell and Payton Lill both finish their High School career with tonight’s loss.  Over their five-year Varsity career, the seniors finish with some impressive stats.  Bell finished with 138 goals and 153 assists.  The career assists set a new record for the Warriors, topping the previous record from Shauna Pugliese (78 assists).  Lill finished with 211 goals and 90 assists and set new school records in both goals and total points.  In addition to her offensive skills, she set a new record in draw controls with 421 draw controls over five years.

Over the course of their career, the two have been there for major points in each others lives, both on and off the field. Schroeder team reporter writes of the pair, “The friendship and chemistry between Maddie and Payton [was] obvious both on and off the field.  It was Maddie who fed Payton on her 100th career goal milestone and Payton who fed Maddie when she recorded her 100th career assist.”

The contest had players on both teams that will continue to play at the college level.  For Schroeder, Bell (Central Michigan), Lill (Columbia) and Nelson (Robert Morris University).  For Spencerport, juniors Coykendall (Northwestern) and Sack (Duquesne) have both committed.
