Penfield, Brighton and HFL Win Championships

After the regular season of a maximum of sixteen games, some team progressed to the Section Five Tournaments as determined by their LaxPower.com Power Rankings on May 16th. In Class A eight of the ten teams qualified and the top seeds proceded through the tournament to the finals. Penfield, the number two seed, defeated Pittsford, the number one seed, in a very close 10-9 game and won the Championship.

Trophy Class B teams played in an eight game tournament with all but one team qualifying. The top four seeds progressed to the semifinals and the top two seeds made it to the finals where Brighton(#1) defeated Canandaigua (#2) 10-6 for the Championship.

Twelve of the fourteen Class C teams qualified for their tournament and the seeding, once again, proved effective as all four top teams made the semifinals and the top two teams competed in the finals. Honeoye Falls-Lima (#1) defeated Waterloo (#2) for the Championship.

The three Champions then moved on to the New York State Tournaments. In the Western Regionals, where all three teams defeated teams from Section Six. Penfield beat Lancaster 17-3 in Class A, Brighton beat Hamburg 15-7 in Class B and HF-L beat Amherst in Class C. In the Semifinal round, Farmingdale (Section 8) defeated Penfield 10-6 and Mt. Sinai (Section 11) defeated HF-L 7-7 in overtime in Class C. Brighton beat Manhasset (Section 8) 9-8 and played for the NYS Championship, but lost to Christian Brothers Academy (Section 3).
