Statistical Overview Following Week 7
As we approach the final weeks of the season, it seemed appropriate to write an article about statistics in Section Five. When GLaxFive launched, we chose not to include a leader board, but as the season has progressed it is a decision that we re-visited. For this season, we hope to publish a few articles that can fill that gap.
There are 33 teams in Section Five this season. Of those, 30 are sending in statistics to the website. Three teams, each for their own reason, have not sent in any statistics (Brighton, Penn Yan and Gates Chili). We hope to include their numbers after the season has concluded, for historical record, but as of the moment they have not reported any statistics. There have been 207 games played so far this season with 3,125 goals scored by Section Five athletes.
Let`s start from the team standpoint. Spencerport is currently leading in total goals scored by a team with 191 goals and an average of 17.4 goals per game. They have scored at least 19 goals in 7 of their 11 games. They were held under 10 goals twice (vs. Churchville-Chili and vs. Fairport). They are currently 10-1 and the only team in Section Five with only 1 loss and one of only three with over 10 wins. If seeding were today, laxpower has them at #1 in the Class B Tournament. The two other teams with over 10 wins (Pittsford and Pal-Mac) are both listed at #1 in their respective classes (Pittsford is an A and Pal-Mac is a C).
Pal-Mac currently has the second highest team total at 162 goals and an average of 13.5 (3rd highest average). The Red Raiders are 10-2 with their only losses coming in their season opener vs. Irondequoit and vs. Penfield. Both losses were only by a single point. Hilton has the second highest average points per game at 14.5 with the third highest total goals 160.
Much like goals, Spencerport leads in total assists with 103. They are the only team with over 100 assists. A much better indicator for assists is % of goals that are assisted. HFL is currently the leader in % of assisted goals with 59.2% of their goals having an assist. The Cougars are 5-6 but are ranked #2 in the laxpower seeding for Class C (behind Pal-Mac). Schroeder has 58.5% of their goals assisted with 62 assists on 106 goals. The Warriors are 4-8 and 5th in Class A. Third in percentage of assisted goals is Aquinas with 56.4% assisted. The Little Irish are 8-4 and #5 in Class C. From the other side, East Rochester leads with 84.6% of their goals being unassisted. The Bombers are 1-9 with 52 goals and only 8 assists. Newark (77.1%) and Eastridge (75.0%) round out the top three.
In all of Section Five, 332 players have scored at least 1 point. 36% of those players are from the junior class (122 of 332 athletes). 25% of players are seniors, 22% are sophomores, 13% are freshman with 2% coming from girls 8th grade or less. The majority of goals coming from the junior class with 1240 goals (40% of all goals).
Moving on to the individual side of the stats, Hilton senior Rachel Ryan is currently leading Section Five in goals with 60 goals. Closely behind Ryan is Victor senior Emily Hawryschuk with 53 goals. In third is Spencerport freshman Erin Coykendall with 48 goals. The highest ranked junior on the list is 6th on the list (Mynderse's Sadie Mapstone. The highest ranked sophomore is 5th on the list (Brockport's Leah Daly with 44 goals). 8th grader Andra Savage of Pal-Mac sits at 17th on the list with 32 goals.
Coykendall makes her second appears on the top of the assists list with 46 assists. Pal-Mac junior Anna Leva is in second with 34 assists. Schroeder sophomore Madison Bell currently has 33 and is third on the list. The highest senior on the list is in 4th (Brockport's Jasmyn Jessmer). 7th grader Sami Carey of Mercy sits at 16th with 18 assists.
Not surprisingly, Coykendall leads Section Five in combined points with 94. Ryan comes back in the second spot of 79. Geneva senior Ali Turner fills the third spot with 75. Thomas' junior Nicole Voci leads the junior class in the 4th spot with 63 points. Hawryschuk also has 63 points. Bell comes back to lead in the sophomore class with 53 points in the 10th spot.
Next up is the per game statistics. Turner has had the highest point total in a single game with 14 points for the Panthers. Geneva's 17-13 win over Aquinas on 4/21 saw Turner with 9g-5a. Junior Emily Coykendall tied with Erin Coykendall with 12 points in a game. Emily finished with 5g-7a in Spencerport's 22-6 win over Gates-Chili on 5/4. Erin scored her 12 points with 8g-4a in their 22-4 win over Arc/Oly on 4/12. Erin has finished with 10 points or more in 5 games. Emily and Turner both had a second game over 10 points. Ryan (Hilton) had 2 games at 10 points and Daly (Brockport) had 1.
Switching to goalies, Greece Ath/Ody sophomore Natalie Arieno leads the section with 134 recorded saves. Midlakes senior Emily Miller has 103 saves recorded this season. Sophomore Julia Hoyser of Gananda has 100 saves so far this season to be 3rd in the Section. Excluding goalies who have played less than 100 minutes, Waterloo senior Vanessa Walters currently has the highest percentage in the Section at 62% (96s/60ga). Spencerport senior Olivia Schroeder sits at 61% with (59s/38ga). Third with 60% is Pal-Mac junior Sophia Leva (86s/57ga). Most saves in a single game goes to Arieno in 1st and 3rd. She recorded 26 saves vs. Hilton and 16 saves vs. Brockport. Holding the second spot is freshman Shaina Doser with 17 saves vs. Spencerport.
In a couple weeks, when the season ends, we hope to compile another set of data. In the meantime if you are interested in these kinds of articles and statistics you can send an email to us at info@glaxfive.net.
All information and analysis from this article is based on a stat download from 05/08/2016. Any stats entered after that time (even from games before) have not been included.
