Quarter Final Match-ups

Quarter final match-ups will be played over the next two days.  At this point, Class B and Class C are both full brackets with 8 teams remaining in each.  Class A starts their tournament on Monday with two games to decide who will face the #1 and #2 seeds.

CLASS A:

There are two match-ups in the Class A Quarter Finals.  #1 seeded Pittsford and #2 seeded Fairport receive byes into the Semi-Finals.

#3 Rush-Henrietta vs. #6 Mercy:

The Royal Comets will host the Monarchs on Monday (May 23rd) at 5:30.  RH defeated Mercy during the regular season 16-4.  Historically, they have defeated the Monarchs 7 out 8 times they have faced.  

R-H defeated Mercy 16-6.  GLaxFive had a reporter at the game.  The leading scorers were Gabby Garrett (3g-2a) for RH and Izzy Stockman (3g) for Mercy.  GLaxFive had a reporter at the game. The full story is HERE.

#4 Penfield vs. #5 Schroeder:

The Patriots will host the Warriors on Monday (May 23rd) at 7:00.  Penfield won the regular season game 8-6.  The Warriors have not defeated the Patriots since 2012 and trail in the series 1-19.  

In the first lower seed to win in the tournament, Schroeder defeated Penfield 8-7 with a goal with 0:00.3 remaining on the clock.  Payton Lill scored her fourth goal to give the Warriors the win.  GLaxFive had a reporter at the game.  The full story is HERE.

 Following the games:

#1 Pittsford will come off their first round bye and face #5 Schroeder at 5:00 on May 26th at HFL as part of the Semi-Final double header.  #2 Fairport will take on #3 Rush-Henrietta in the second game at 7:00. 

 

CLASS B:

At this point, the Class B Tournament is a full bracket of 8 teams.  The three teams with out-bracket byes are ready to play their first games.  The third through eighth seeds all survived the first round and move on to the quarter finals.

#1 Spencerport vs. #8 Churchville-Chili:

The Rangers have only lost one game all year (to Fairport in overtime) and look to continue their winning season in the first round of sectionals.  Churchville-Chili had a tough earlier season, but have won 5 of the last 6, including a number of big wins.  Historically, the Saints lead the series 12-8.  Earlier this season Spencerport defeated Churchville Chili 9-6.  

In their lowest scoring game of the year, Spencerport only scored 4 goals.  However, it was enough to defeat Churchville-Chili 4-3.  The Saints, were coming off an impressive second half of the season before the loss.  Erin Coykendall led in scoring with 1g-2a.  Additional stats are HERE.

#2 Victor vs. #7 Hilton:

The Blue Devils defeated the Cadets 17-5 earlier this season.  Historically, they have never lost to the Cadets in the four times they have faced.  The Cadets finished the season with a strong record (10-7 vs. 8-8).

Victor defeated Hilton 22-8.  Kaci Messier led in scoring with 9g-2a for the Blue Devils.  Emily Hawryschuk added 5g-4a and 4 draw controls.  Additional stats are HERE.

#3 Brighton vs. #6 Canandaigua:

The Barons defeated the Braves 7-4 earlier in the season.  Historically, Brighton has won 9 out 12 match-ups.  

Brighton defeated Canandaigua 11-4.  The Barons scored the first nine goals to lead 9-0 at the half.  Baylee Ojeda (2g) led in scoring for the Braves.  Additional stats are HERE.

#4 Irondequoit vs. #5 Thomas:

This match-up is the only in Class B without either team having a bye in the first round.  The Eagles will face the Titans.  Irondequoit defeated Eastridge 16-2 in the first round to earn a spot in the quarter finals.  Thomas defeated Gates-Chili 16-1 to earn their spot.  Thomas defeated Irondequoit in the regular season 13-4.  

In the second lower seed to win in the tournament, Thomas scored in the second overtime period to defeat Irondequoit 10-9.  GLaxFive had a reporter at the game and the full story is HERE.

After the games:

The top three seeds held on and move to the semi-finals.  #5 seeded Webster Thomas was the only team in the Class B tournament to defeated a higher seed.  #1 Spencerport will face #5 Webster Thomas at 5:00 on May 27th at Pittsford Sutherland in the first part of the Class B Semi-final double header.  #2 Victor will face #3 Brighton at 7:00 on May 27th in the second part of the double header.

 

CLASS C:

At this point, the Class C Tournament is a full bracket of 8 teams.  The three teams with out-bracket byes are ready to play their first games.  The third through eighth seeds all survived the first round and move on to the quarter finals.

#1 Pal-Mac vs. #8 Mynderse:

The Red Raiders have only lost two games their season, both to teams outside Class C (Irondequoit and Penfield).  The defeated Mynderse 15-4 earlier in the year.  Historically, the have won 21 straight times against the Blue Devils.  

Pal-Mac led 11-0 at halftime on their way to a 20-4 victory over Mynderse.  Abby Halsey led in scoring with 4g-1a.  Emma Arnold (3g-1a), Anna Leva (2g-2a) and Andra Savage (4g) also added to the totals.  Additional stats are HERE.

#2 HFL vs. #7 Marcus Whitman:

These two teams have not faced each other in over 5 years.  Back in 2013, HFL won 17-1 in the Sectional Tournament.  The Wildcats have the stronger record at 12-5 (vs. 8-8); however, the Cougars have had a much stronger schedule.  

HFL defeated Marcus Whitman 17-2 to move on to the semi-finals.  Leading in scoring for the Cougars was Caitlin Muir with 6g-3a.  Abbie Alvord and Jordan Knapp scored the two goals for the Wildcats.  Additional stats are HERE.

#3 Penn Yan vs. #6 Geneva:

The Mustangs won their regular season contest 16-7 over the Panthers.  Historically, Geneva has only won once (in 2012) and Penn Yan has won 20 times.  

Penn Yan scored four of the last five goals, including the winner in overtime to defeat Geneva 13-12.  Geneva led for most of the game before Penn Yan forced the overtime with 2:33 left in regulation.  The Mustangs` Hannah Keech scored both the game tying goal as well as the game winning goal in overtime.  She finished with 5g for the Mustangs.  Ali Turner (3g-7a) led for the Panthers will Alicia Reuscher (5g-1a) adding to the tally.  Additional stats are HERE.

#4 Waterloo vs. #5 Aquinas:

This match-up is the only in Class C without either team having a bye in the first round.  The Indians defeated Newark 17-2 and the Little Irish defeated Midlakes 20-7.  In the regular season, Waterloo defeated Aquinas 8-6.  Historically, the Indians have won all 6 times the two programs have met.  

Waterloo continued their historically streak and won another contest against Aquinas.  They won 7-6 and scored all seven goals in the second half.  Keira O`Connor led in scoring with 4g for the Indians.  Additional stats are HERE.

After the games:

The top four seeds all won their quarter final games.  Class C was the only class without an upset.  #1 Pal-Mac will face #4 Waterloo at 5:00 on May 27th at Victor in the first of the Class C double header.  #2 HFL will face #3 Penn Yan at 7:00 in the second game of the double header.
