Thompson Sets Pace in Marcus Whitman Win

Emily Thompson finished with four goals in Marcus Whitman's 15-6 win over Greece Athena/Odyssey.  The Wildcats scored 10 of the first 11 goals and increased their record to 3-2.

Thompson scored the first two Wildcat goals of the game with an unassisted fast break goal only 0:17 into the contest.  Just over 1 minute later, the Thunder got on the board with Leanza Gibaud feeding Emily Benham inside the arc.  Thompson's second goal was another unassisted fast break goal only 0:15 seconds after Benham's.  Abbie Alvord scored the next two goals for Marcus Whitman with a drive from behind the cage and off an inside feed from Cameron James.  The Wildcats kept up the pressure and led 11-2 at the half.

In the second half, both teams added four goals.  The Thunder scored four of the last six goals.  Three of their four fourth quarter goals were scored off 8m free position shots.  Included in that was Benham's free position goal at 15:42. This was her 100th career point for the Thunder.  She added another 1g-1a after the 100th to finish with 4g-1a in today's contest.  She also recorded five draw controls to lead her team.  For the Wildcats, Thompson finished with a team leading 5 draws.  Charlotte Alvord and Jordan Knapp each added another 3 draws.

In the cage for the Thunder, Natalie Arieno finished with 13 saves.  For Marcus Whitman, Liz Cooley (3 saves) and Alyssa Chase (1 save) split at the half.
