James Scores in Overtime for Marcus Whitman
Cameron James scored her third goal of the night with 1:18 remaining in the first overtime period to give Marcus Whitman the 9-8 win over Wayne. This is the second time the Eagles have lost in overtime this season. The game was back and forth with three lead changes. The Wildcats fought back from a three goal deficit in the second half to take the lead and force Wayne to send the game into overtime.
Charlotte Alvord and James scored the opening two goals to give the Wildcats a 2-0 lead in the first two minutes. Hannah Zenelovic scored her lone goal next for the Eagles. Emily Thompson scored for Marcus Whitman with 21:21 to go up 3-1. Wayne scored six of the next seven goals to go from trailing by two to leading by three. Casey Hibbard (2), Bailey Pratt (2), Jillian Pembroke and Mary Panepento scored for the Eagles while Thompson added the lone Marcus Whitman goal.
Trailing 7-4 with 17:36 remaining, the Wildcats went on a four goal streak to take back the lead. Thompson scored back to back goals to tie the game at 7-7 with 8:22 left before Jordan Knapp scored the go ahead goal. With time expiring, Wayne forced the game into overtime with an unassisted goal from Hannah LaBarge.
In the cage for Wayne, Rachel Haywood finished with seven saves. Liz Cooley finished at 50% with eight saves for Marcus Whitman.
