Pittsford Moves to State Tournament

Top seeded Pittsford will be the Class A representative to the NYS Tournament.  The Panthers defeated Fairport 11-6.  They scored the first goal and never trailed in their win over the Red Raiders.  Jillie Quevedo set the pace of the entire game when she scored on fast-break goal only 0:15 into the contest.

The Red Raiders kept the game close for the first half, before Pittsford increase their lead in the second.  The Red Raiders largest lead was the final score (five goal lead).  Fairport only tied the game once at 1-1 with an inside feed from Cameryn Dera to Megan Konieczny.  Both Dera and Konieczny were named to the All Tournament team.  A complete list of winners is attached to the bottom of this article.  The Panthers scored the next two goals with an 8m goal from Abbey Leon and an inside dodge from Jenna Doyle.  Dera scored her first goal off a fast-break to keep the game within one.  Two minutes later Maddie Miller scored her first goal of the night.  She finished with 3g-2a and was named the Class A All Tournament MVP.  Once again the Red Raiders pulled within one goal with Crystal Elvin scoring off a fast-break.  The play began with defenseman Hannah Shin stripping the ball on defense and running all the way up the field to assist on the goal.  Shin had a strong defensive night for the RedRaidrs.  The score was 4-3 Pittsford at the half.

In the second half, Pittsford scored four of the first five goals to take an 8-4 lead.  Elizabeth Blanding, Ellie Mooney and two goals from Megan Plain rounded out the four Panther goals.  Dera added her second goal with a feed from Sydney Meagher.  The Red Raiders continued to fight in the second half, but the Panthers held strong to their lead and increased it with the final two goals.  Caroline Cullinan scored her lone goal of the game with 6:14 remianing in the contest.  She caught a feed from Blanding on the crease and finished her shot into the back of the net as she was falling.  Miller scored the final goal of the game for Pittsford with a drive straight at the net.

In the cage for Pittsford, Michelle Messenger finished with six saves.  For Fairport, junior Isabel Hoffod also recorded six saves.  The draw controls were strongly in Pittsford's favor with Cullinan recording 7 and Doyle adding 4 more.  Overall, Pittsford won 13/19.  Maddie Howe led the Red Raiders with 4.


Pittsford will continue on to the State Tournament and face the Class A Champion out of Section VI (Buffalo).  UPDATE: #1 seeded Lancaster won the Section VI Title and will come to Pittsford Sutherland on Saturday to face the Panthers.
