Schroeder Holds On for First Win Ever Over HFL

Webster Schroeder defeated HFL for the first time in their history 16-15.  The Warriors took an early lead in the first half and held off the late advances by the Cougars.  Schroeder scored seven out of eight goals in a six minute span early in the first half.

HFL scored the first two goals with Caitlin Muir scoring the opening goal and assisting the second to Ashley Guerra.  Muir finished the game with 4g-3a for the Cougars.  Schroder took the 0-2 start and went on a scoring frenzy.  Kennedy Walters and Peyton Lill scored two each with Jahna Beling, Maria Hristodoulou and Kelsey Nelson added one a piece.  The Warriors led 7-3 with less than 10 minutes into the game.  The Cougars did not let the game get out of hand and tied the game up by 2:16 remaining in the first half.  HFL's Brittany Chamberlain led the charge with 2g-3a in the streak.  She finished the game with 4g-4a.  The final goal of the first quarter was scored by Madison Bell to give the Warriors a 10-9 lead going into halftime.

The scoring was back and forth in the second half with Schroeder holding a small lead (or being tied) for the majority of the half.  Although the Cougars tied the game multiple times (2-2, 9-9 and 11-11) they never held a lead after the 19:00 mark of the first half.  With 8:04 remaining in the game, Schroeder had a three goal lead (16-13).  The Cougars scored the final two goals to bring the game within one, but could not capitalize in the final six minutes.  The last goal of the game was scored by Muir with an unassisted drive to the cage at 5:57 remaining.

Jordan Concordia finished with five recorded saves for the Warriors. Midfielder Payton Lill led her team with 12 draw controls for Schroeder.
