DAY IN REVIEW: TUESDAY - Section V crowned its class C and class D girls lacrosse champions on Tuesday. In class C, it was No. 3 Honeoye Falls-Lima taking the title, defeating No. 1 Pal-Mac 9-6 in a hard-fought battle, thanks to Harper Jacob’s three-goal performance and a balanced offensive effort. The Cougars advance to take on Lake Shore (section VI) in the sub-regionals. In class D, No. 1 Penn Yan showcased its dominance in a commanding 17-5 victory over No. 2 Waterloo, led by Bailey Cooper, who had five goals and an assist, and Maihue Miranda-Wiltberger, who won 17 draw controls. Penn Yan is now set to face Eden (section VI) in the sub-regionals.

HONEOYE FALLS-LIMA-9 at PAL-MAC-6 - Harper Jacob (3g), Shaye Angelo (2g), Mackinley Buckley (2g/1a), and Jenna Lawrence (2g) led the scoring for No. 3 Honeoye Falls-Lima. Teagan Hudak had five goals for No. 1 Pal-Mac. Up next for Honeoye Falls-Lima is a sub-regional matchup against Lake Shore (section VI) on Thursday at Williamsville South HS. A Night of Lacrosse Showdowns

DAY IN REVIEW: THURSDAY - The class B and class C semifinal games were played on Thursday. In the closest match of the night, No. 2 Pittsford earned its spot in the class B finals, holding off a fierce fourth-quarter comeback attempt by No. 6 Brighton and edging the Bruins by a score of 12-10. No. 1 Victor defeated No. 4 Irondequoit 14-6, setting up a Wednesday clash between the Blue Devils and the Panthers for the class B championship. In class C, No. 1 Pal-Mac and No. 3 Honeoye Falls-Lima both cruised to victory, and will face each other in the finals on Tuesday. 

IRONDEQUOIT-6 at VICTOR-14 -  Camryn Adrid (4g), Julia Bruno (3g/1a), Allie Pisano (2g/2a),and Maia Pronti (2g/2a) led the scoring for No. 1 Victor. DAY IN REVIEW: WEDNESDAY - A total of four semifinal games were played today, with four teams earning their spots in upcoming championship matchups. In class A, No. 3 Rush-Henrietta edged No. 2 Fairport in a tightly contested 8-6 battle. Waterloo pulled away in the second half of its class D semifinal matchup with Mynderse-Romulus, winning 13-7. Elsewhere, both Penfield, the number one seed in class A, and Penn Yan, the number one seed in class D, advanced easily. 

MYNDERSE-ROMULUS-7 at WATERLOO-13 - Maci Mueller led No. 2 Waterloo with four goals and an assist, and Peyton Lyons made six saves. Myah Herron had three goals for third-seeded Mynderse-Romulus. Tense Matchups & Dominant Wins: Quarters in Review

DAY IN REVIEW: TUESDAY - The class B and class C quarterfinals were completed today. In class B, there was a mild upset when No. 6 Brighton defeated No. 3 Mercy 12-10, led by a five-goal performance by Ireland Mistretta. The Bruins are now set to face No. 2 Pittsford in the semifinals, the Panthers having defeated No. 7 Churchville-Chili 18-4. No. 1 Victor and No. 4 Irondequoit also advanced in class B. In class C action, No. 2 Geneva powered past No. 7 Brockport for its fifth consecutive win, setting up a semifinal matchup with No. 3 Honeoye Falls-Lima, which dominated No. 6 Wayne 21-4 with the help of six goals from Harper Jacob. No. 1 Pal-Mac and No. 4 Aquinas-WOIS also booked their spots in the class C semifinals with commanding victories.

Road to the Quarterfinals: Saturday Recap

DAY IN REVIEW: SATURDAY - Four matchups set the stage for an exciting class B quarterfinal round on Tuesday. No. 5 Spencerport edged Thomas in a close 8-5 battle, with Raquel Circhirillo netting four goals to help secure the win. No. 6 Brighton dominated Schroeder 14-3 behind Ireland Mistretta’s five-goal performance and Alexandra Madison’s milestone 50th varsity goal. Keira Gioseffi scored five goals to help No. 9 Canandaigua power past Eastridge/BK 21-14 in a high-scoring showdown. In the final game of the day, No. 7 Churchville-Chili secured a 11-7 victory over Hilton. In total, four teams punched their tickets to the next round, where they will fight for a spot in the class B semifinals.

The 2025 Tournament Begins

The section 5 girls lacrosse post-season tournament begins Saturday with four first-round games in class B. All first-round and quarterfinal games will be hosted by the higher-seeded team. All semifinal games will be played at neutral sites and, for the first time ever, the University of Rochester will host the final game for each of the four classes.

Class A

Penfield looks to bounce back from a disappointing semifinal loss to Pittsford last season. The Patriots lost only three games all season, each of them by only one goal, and two of them in overtime. Fairport is the defending class A champion in section 5, and comes into the postseason riding a eight-game winning streak. Rush-Henrietta, which lost to Fairport each of the past two years in postseason play, hopes to flip the script this year.

Victor has won the New York State class B championship in each of the past three years, and has fielded another strong squad this season. The Blue Devils face a potential quarterfinal matchup against Canandaigua, the last class B team to defeat them. Pittsford earned the number two seed in its first season in class B. The Panthers will take on the winner of the first-round game between Churchville-Chili and Hilton. Mercy, last season's class C champion in section 5, has a potential quarterfinal matchup against Brighton. The Bruins come into the playoffs on a roll, having recently recorded road wins against both Canandaigua and Honeoye Falls-Lima. Irondequoit, the number four seed, has a likely quarterfinal matchup against Spencerport, the team that bumped the Eagles from the playoffs last year. Eastridge/BK enjoyed a successful run in the regular season but faces a difficult first-round opponent in Canandaigua.

Pal-Mac, last season's class D runner-up in section 5, moved up to class C this season and claimed the number one seed. Geneva enjoyed its most successful season in years but faces a potential semifinal roadblock in the form of Honeoye Falls-Lima, last season's class C runner-up in section 5. The number three-seeded Cougars, who defeated Pal-Mac 17-5 early this season who logged a recent victory over Pittsford, take on Wayne in the quarterfinals. Aquinas/WOIS and Livonia-Avon-Geneseo will match up for the third time this year; the visiting team won each of the previous games.

Penn Yan is the number one seed, having recorded victories this season over Brighton, Canandaigua, Irondequoit, and Honeoye Falls-Lima. The Mustangs will face Marcus Whitman in the first semifinal game. In the second semifinal, Waterloo, the number two seed, looks to continue its winning ways against Mynderse-Romulus; the Tigers have defeated the Blue Devils seven consecutive times, including twice already this season.

Thursday Thrillers: Nail-Biters & Dominant Wins

DAY IN REVIEW: THURSDAY - In an exciting day of matchups, Geneva edged Eastridge/BK 11-10, with Allison Marquart netting the game-winner in the final two minutes. Canandaigua claimed a close 12-10 victory over Spencerport, led by Keira Gioseffi's five-goal performance. Elsewhere, Hilton secured a dominant 17-6 win over Livonia-Avon-Geneseo, Honeoye Falls-Lima delivered a commanding 21-5 victory over Churchville-Chili, and Gates Chili topped Gananda-Marion 16-4, rounding out a day that featured a total of five games.

Mercy earned a 11-10 win over Irondequoit behind four goals from Mia Quagrello. Lily Kondas had five goals as Fairport extended its winning streak to eight games with a 10-7 victory over Victor. Livonia-Avon-Geneseo cruised past Marcus Whitman 19-7, with standout performances from Lily Rowe, Sidney Clickner, and Maddie Whitford. Finally, Greece Storm defeated Gates Chili 8-4 behind three goals each from Emma Dioguardi and Erica Savage, rounding out a night of high-energy matchups.

2024 Season Wrap Up

There were thirty teams playing Varsity Girls Lacrosse in Section V. There were 688 players on the final rosters. Brockport carried the largest roster with thirty-one players and Waterloo-Marcus Whitman had the smallest with fourteen. 

There were four classes for the sectional tournaments. Penfield (A), Canandaigua (B), and Mercy (C) and Penn Yan (D) were the top seeded teams.

Fairport beat Rush-Henrietta and Pittsford for their championship. Second-seeded Victor beat Thomas and then Brighton before defeating top-seeded Canandaigua for the Class B Championship. In Class C, Mercy beat Wayne and then HFL in a close game to claim their championship while in Class D, Penn Yan beat Marcus Whitman, Aquinas/WOIS, and Pal-Mac for their title.

The teams were able to play a full season again in 2024. The first games were played on March 25th with Hilton, Spencerport and Schroeder winning their openers. The last regular season game was played on May 16th when Canandaigua defeated Churchville-Chili.

The 262 regular season games were played and the 138 league games determined the league championships.

At the end of the year, the Section V Head Coaches selected the post-season award winners including their All-League players. Then they selected five USA Lacrosse All-Americans and five All-Academics. Named All-Americans were Reagan Diehl (Pal-Mac), Ella Peers (Fairport), Devin Livingston (Victor), Hanna Davis (Canandaigua), and Molly Guzik (Spencerport).

Named All-Academics were Alli Chimenti (Wayne), Katie Mallaber (Fairport), Alyssa Nichols (Spencerport), Angelia Oechsle (Rush-Henrietta), and Lucy Lederman (Brighton).

Honeoye Falls-Lima Head Coach Kevin O`Connell was named Coach of the Year from Section V and the Jackie Pitts Award winner was Zoe Baase from Brockport.

After the regular season, the Section V tournaments were conducted. Fairport (Class A), Victor (Class B), Mercy (Class C) and Penn Yan (Class D) were the Sectional Champions in 2024.

The New York State Tournaments were back in full swing and sectional champions went on to play Section VI champions in the Western Regionals (quarter finals).

In Class A, Fairport beat Lancaster (12-7) and then defeated Massapequa (Section VIII) 10-9, taking them to the finals where they lost to Cicero-North Syracuse (Section III) 12-8.

In Class B, Victor beat Clarence (Section VI) by a score of 22-0. They then beat West Islip (Section XI) 11-10 and defeated West Genesee (Section III) 16-8 to win their third Class B NYS Championship in a row.

In Class C, Our Lady of Mercy won their game against Lake Shore of Section VI 17-8 but then lost to Sayville (Section XI) by a score of 13-8 in the semifinals. Penn Yan beat Gowanda (Section VI) 17-4 before losing to Cold Spring Harbor (Section VIII) 18-4 in the semifinals.

By the end of the season at least sixty-four players had made college commitments. They will become part of over three hundred players from Section V who are currently playing at all college levels.
