Penfield Defeats Orchard Park

Penfield put together a strong performance against Orchard Park (section VI), securing an 18-5 victory in a NYS class A regional matchup at Clarence High School. With the win, the Patriots move on to the semifinal round of the NYS championship for the first time since 2018. It was the Patriots' eighth consecutive win.

Penfield was led by Peyton Rothfuss, who registered three goals and three assists in addition to nine draw control wins. Reegan Sercu had three goals and an assist. Jenna Capozzi (2g/4a), Whitney Reynolds (2g/1a), Avery Fordham (2g/1a), Aleah Petre (2g/1a), and Olivia Lanning (2g/1a) all scored multiple goals; for Avery Fordham, her second goal of the game was the 50th of her varsity career. Karis Hand made four saves for a 57% save rate in 40 minutes of play.

Orchard Park, playing without its usual starting goalkeeper Rory Senft, relied on eighth-grader Gabby Sodja to fill in. Maya Griffin and Mia Bradley accounted for all of Orchard Park's scoring, with two and three goals, respectively.

The Patriots now turn their focus to a rematch against Cicero-North Syracuse at SUNY Cortland on Friday. Penfield lost the earlier game, 10-9, back in March.    [ Story and BOX SCORE
