Mercy Wins First Game of 2026
HORSEHEADS-8 at MERCY-11 - In a tightly contested match, Mercy emerged victorious in this year’s section V opener, defeating Horseheads by a score of 11 to 8. Mercy took a 6-4 lead at halftime, extended its lead to three at the end of the third quarter, and held on to secure the win. Horseheads was the second-ranked team in NYS section IV last season according to laxnumbers.com.
Sydney Cook (3g/3a) and Mia Quagrello (4g) led the scoring for the Monarchs. Maeve Shanahan chipped in two goals and an assist, and Avery Parrinello and Maddie Craig each added a goal and an assist. Mia Quagrello also led the team with five draw controls. It was the first win for Mercy under new head coach Maggie Stoler. [ Story and BOX SCORE]
