State Semi-Finals

Three Section Five Teams advanced to the State Finals tomorrow.  After all four teams moved on to the State Semi-Finals, three of the four won today and will play for their respective State Titles tomorrow.  In the first game this morning, HFL defeated Brewster 10-9.  The second game found Bronxville defeating Pal-Mac 14-5.  The third game featured Penfield forcing overtime and defeating North Rockland 9-8.  The final game had Brighton defeating John Jay 17-7.

In the first game of the day, HFL faced Brewster.  The Bears finished their season 17-5 after today's loss to the Cougars.  The game was close throughout.  There was never more than a two goal differential between the two teams.  HFL opened up the scoring off a goal from Kierin Ratliff.  The Cougars led for most of the first half until Brewster scored the final goal of the half to take a 6-5 lead into halftime.  In the second half, they extended that to 7-5 before HFL scored three unanswered.  The game winning goal was scored by Paige Smith off an 8m opportunity with 6:00 left in regulation.  Additional stats, when updated, are HERE.

The Cougars will now face Cold Spring Harbor in the Finals.  The Seahawks defeated JD 16-8 to advance.  The Class C Title game will begin tomorrow at 9:00 AM.

The second game of the day was between Pal-Mac and Bronxville.  The Broncos scored the first seven goals of the contest and held a 7-1 lead going into halftime.  The continued to extend their lead into the second half.  Abigael LaRocca led in scoring for the Red Raiders with 2g.  Jamie Walker finished with 4 draw controls to lead her team.  Additional stats are HERE.

The third game was between Penfield and North Rockland.  The Red Raiders dominated the first half before Penfield mounted a comeback in the second half.  North Rockland led 6-3 going into halftime.  In the second half, Penfield fought back to a 7-7 and 8-8 tie before going into overtime.  After trailing 8-7 with 4:03 remaining, Penfield forced a tie off a goal from Nina Nesselbush with 1:41 left in regulation.  Morgan Cox scored two goals in the second half comeback as well as the game winning goal in the first overtime period.  The winner was scored off an 8m free position with 1:38 remaining.  Additional stats, when updated, are HERE.

The Patriots will now face Christian Brothers Academy (CBA) in the Finals.  The Brothers defeated West Islip 13-8 to advance.  The Patriots and Brothers have played twice since 2015 with both teams winning once (Penfield in 2015 and CBA in 2016).  The Class A Title game will begin tomorrow at 2:00 PM

The final game of the day was between Brighton and John Jay.  The River Indians fell off in the second half when the Baron's outscored them 9-1 in the final 25 minutes.  Leading in scoring for Brighton were Kathryn Smolensky (5g-1a) and Katie Lederman (3g-3a).  Piper Davis led in draw controls with 7.  Additional stats are HERE.

The Barons will now face Manhasset in the Finals.  The Indians defeated FM 13-8 to advance.  The Barons and Indians have only faced once since 2013 with Brighton winning 9-8.  The Class B Title game will begin tomorrow at 4:30 PM.
