Pittsford Gives CNS First Loss of Season

Pittsford moves to 5-1 with their 10-7 win over CNS (Section III).  CNS falls to 6-1 with their first loss of the season coming at the hands of the Panthers.  The game was highly contested in the first half with both teams leading.  The Panthers scored the first four goals to the second half to secure the win.  Senior Maddie Miller scored the first two goals of the second half to set the pace for the remainder of the game.

CNS sophomore Megan Tryniski scored the opening goal of the game with a free position shot only 0:25 into the game.  The Panthers spent the next two minutes man-down, but where able to control the ball for the entirety and keep the Northstars from scoring any additional goals.  The first Panther goal was scored by Heather Higgins with a free position shot.  The Northstar scored back to back goals to take their largest lead of the game.  Midfielder Meghan Duffy had a strong defensive take from the Panthers that lead to a fast-break goal from Bryar Cummings (assisted by Samantha Tortora).  Cummings scored again less than one minute later with a feed from Duffy.  Duffy passed the ball from behind the cage to Cummings who was open on the crease.

Pittsford kept the game close with the next three goals.  All of which were scored as one-on-one drives from behind the cage.  Elizabeth Blanding, Jillie Quevedo and Miller each scored a goal with a single drive.  The Panthers took their first lead of the game with 2:33 remaining in the half.  The Panthers never trailed again.  With 0:46 remaining in the half, Tortora got her second assist of the game to Mallory Eymer.  The score was tied 4-4 at the half.

After Miller scored her back to back goals (the first a dodge and the second a free position shot), the Panthers added two more goals.  Quevedo scored her second off a pass from Abbey Leon.  Leon had a free position opportunity before finding Quevedo on the crease.  Blanding scored her second goal with a fast-break.  The Panthers led by 4 with 17:35 remaining.  For the remainder of the game every time the Northstars scored and attempted to cut the lead, the Panthers responded.  All three CNS goals were scored by Duffy.  The Panthers two goals were scored by Quevedo (her 3rd) and Caroline Cullinan.  Cullinan also led her team in draw controls with 3.

In the cage for Pittsford, Michelle Messenger finished with 11 saves.  She was impressive between the pipes for the Panthers.  For the Northstars, Lauren Gilbert recorded 1 save.  Sophomore midfielder Jessica Meneilly and Duffy finished with 3 draw controls each.
