CNS Triumphs Over Penfield in Overtime Showdown

Defending NYS class A champions CNS (section III) clinched a 10-9 overtime victory over Penfield in a non-league lacrosse thriller on Saturday morning. For Penfield, the loss was a heartbreaking one, as the Patriots never trailed in the game before CNS netted the decisive overtime goal.

For CNS, Gabrielle Putman and Elizabeth Smith led the charge with three goals apiece, while Sophia Nesci contributed two goals and two assists. Ella Grotto added one goal and two assists, and Sophia Graham tallied one goal. Gabrielle Putman also controlled 10 draws, and Jillian Howell recorded 10 saves to anchor CNS’s defense.

Penfield saw standout performances from Peyton Rothfuss with four goals and one assist and Reegan Sercu with a goal and an assist. Whitney Reynolds added two goals, while Jenna and Elise Capozzi each scored once. Sophomore goalie Karis Hand recorded seven saves, reaching the milestone of 200 saves in her varsity career. CNS faces Fairport on April 4, while Penfield travels to Penn Yan on March 31.
