Milestones Highlight Wednesday

DAY IN REVIEW: WEDNESDAY - Career milestone performances highlighted Wednesday's action as Irondequoit's Lucy Whipple recorded her 100th draw control, Pal-Mac's Tessa Camelo made her 100th career save, and Newark-Midlakes' Zoe Overslaugh netted her 100th career goal — all in the same day. Wayne's Lauren Twist netted nine goals in a 17-7 victory over Newark-Midlakes, Marcus Whitman topped Gananda-Marion 12-3, and Brockport edged Mynderse/Romulus/Waterloo 12-11. Mercy-Brighton was postponed to Thursday at 5 p.m.

Patriots and Saints Get First Wins

DAY IN REVIEW: TUESDAY - Two teams earned their first victories of the season Tuesday. Penfield edged Honeoye Falls-Lima 10-7, despite HF-L goalie Sarah McLaughlin reaching 100 career saves. Churchville-Chili routed Mynderse/Romulus/Waterloo 12-5 behind eight combined goals from Shavonne Callahan and Abigail DeVries. Fairport earned its second win, defeating Hilton 10-4, with Brenna Goss and Camryn DuBose each netting three goals.

Screaming Eagles, Panthers headline a busy Monday

DAY IN REVIEW: MONDAY - There were four games on the slate today, and the Newark-Midlakes/Aquinas matchup was far and away the most action-packed with a combined 26 goals between the two teams, and individual efforts from Zoey Overslaugh and Brynn Henry that would headline any day. The other three games were all lopsided, including CNS over Brighton, Gates Chili winning its opener, and  Pittsford looking like a team to beat in its win over CBA.

DAY IN REVIEW: TUESDAY - Tuesday's girls lacrosse action featured a pair of standout performances. Shaye Angelo scored four goals, including the 250th of her career, to lead Honeoye Falls-Lima past Brighton 14-5, while Irondequoit got 14 combined goals from Ellie Bottiglier, Grace Bottiglier, and Lucy Whipple in a 19-5 win over Mercy. In the day's closest game, Fairport earned its first win of the season with a 9-7 victory over CNS, getting three fourth-quarter goals from Ellie Miller and three goals and four assists from Camryn DuBose.

DAY IN REVIEW: MONDAY - It was a good Monday on the road for two Section V girls lacrosse programs. Penn Yan stayed unbeaten at 3-0 with a win in South Carolina. Meanwhile, Canandaigua wrapped up a road trip to the Southern Tier and Long Island with a win at Mattituck.

Victor Falls to Sayville in a Close Game

DAY IN REVIEW: SATURDAY - Saturday's marquee matchup saw Sayville (2-0) (Section XI) edge Victor 6-5 in an early-season meeting between two of New York's top programs, handing the Blue Devils their first loss of the season. Away from that headliner, it was a strong day for individual performances, with Rush-Henrietta's Taylor Potwin reaching 100 career saves in a 10-5 win over Corning, Canandaigua's Lola Schorr racking up eight assists in a 19-4 win over Vestal, and Livonia-Avon-Geneseo's Maddie Whitford posting four goals and two assists in a 12-10 win over Hamburg.

Big Performances Highlight Opening-Day Wins

DAY IN REVIEW: THURSDAY - Greece Storm, Livonia/Avon/Geneseo, Penn Yan, and Canandaigua all ended the day with victories, highlighted by strong offensive outings and milestone performances. Penn Yan cruised behind Bailey Cooper’s dominant all-around effort, while Livonia/Avon/Geneseo edged out Mynderse/Romulus/Waterloo in the tightest contest. Greece saw success over Marcus Whitman, and Canandaigua extended its rivalry streak with a convincing win over Schroeder.

MARCUS WHITMAN-5 at GREECE STORM-9 - In the season opener for both teams, Greece Storm came away with the victory. It was the Storm’s sixth consecutive win over the Wildcats dating back to 2018.

Emma Dioguardi had five goals and an assist to lead the Storm’s attack. Haley Duxbury (1g/2a), Madelyn Lovejoy (2g/2a), and Isabella Escobar (1g/1a) also scored for Greece; Isabella Escobar’s goal was the first of her varsity career.

Late Goals, Big Milestones Highlight Busy Day

DAY IN REVIEW: WEDNESDAY - Irondequoit edged Fairport 12-11 on Lucy Whipple's goal with a minute left, while Hilton held off Thomas 9-8 on Charley Barlette's late game-winner, and Pal-Mac rallied from a 7-5 third-quarter deficit to beat Churchville-Chili 9-8 helped by Teagan Hudak's five-goal, nine draw control effort. Victor pulled away with 10 second-quarter goals in a 22-7 win over Rush-Henrietta, where Riley Brown scored her 100th career goal, and Pittsford beat Brighton 15-1 for its third straight win in the series. Geneva knocked off Aquinas 17-7 for its first win over the Little Irish in the teams' last 10 meetings, and Brockport topped Wayne 11-8 behind Molly McJury's six goals while Anabelle Ruffell collected the 100th draw control of her varsity career.

HFL takes Close Win over CA

DAY IN REVIEW: TUESDAY - There were two games played today, with HF-L winning a close one against Canandaigua, and Penn Yan opening its season with a win. 

CANANDAIGUA-10 at HONEOYE FALLS-LIMA-11 - In the opening game for both teams, HF-L prevailed in a thriller, winning 11-10. It was the Cougars' first victory over the Gray Wolves since 2017, breaking Canandaigua's seven-game winning streak in the series between the teams.

Shaye Angelo excelled for the Cougars, recording six goals and an assist; she also collected 14 draw controls, including the 300th of her varsity career. Harper Jacob had three goals and an assist. Jenna Lawrence and Cameron McRae rounded out the scoring for HF-L with a goal apiece. Emma Blythe recorded two assists.

Maci Mueller, starting her first game at Canandaigua after five sensational seasons with Waterloo, led the Gray Wolves with four goals. Leah Sheridan, Lola Schorr, and ninth-grader Keira Gioseffi each had two goals.    [BOX SCORE] 

PENN YAN-14 at MERCY-5 - Penn Yan won its first game of the season, delivering a convincing 14-5 victory at Mercy. The Mustangs took an early lead and never trailed in the game. There were no statistics reported from Penn Yan at post time.

Sydney Cook led the Monarchs with a goal and four assists. Angelina Borrelli scored two goals, and Maeve Shanahan and Eva Matarazzo each chipped in a goal. Spencerport Over Geneva

Spencerport defeated Geneva 20-2 in the season opener for both teams. After taking a 5-2 halftime lead, the Rangers broke the game open by scoring five goals in the first three minutes of the third quarter.

Brooke Endres (7g), Joey Cerretto (6g), and Jacey Cerretto (4g) combined for 17 of the Rangers’ 20 goals. Seventh-graders Ava Pittman (2g) and Paige Corredine (1g) accounted for the remainder of the scoring; each tallied her first varsity goal in the game. Casey Corredine and Calla Crowley contributed one assist apiece.

For the Panthers, the lone goal scorers were Makenna Harris and Allison Marquart. Maddie Askin made 12 saves.    [ BOX SCORE]

Mercy Wins First Game of 2026

HORSEHEADS-8 at MERCY-11 - In a tightly contested match, Mercy emerged victorious in this year’s section V opener, defeating Horseheads by a score of 11 to 8. Mercy took a 6-4 lead at halftime, extended its lead to three at the end of the third quarter, and held on to secure the win. Horseheads was the second-ranked team in NYS section IV last season according to laxnumbers.com.

Sydney Cook (3g/3a) and Mia Quagrello (4g) led the scoring for the Monarchs. Maeve Shanahan chipped in two goals and an assist, and Avery Parrinello and Maddie Craig each added a goal and an assist. The Finger Lakes League awarded first team awards to Jenna Santelli, Brinn Castrechini, 
Lily Boesel, Baylee Vilord, Kinsley Bree, Bailey Rossignol, Meghan Forbes, Maddie Askin, Makenna Harris, Laurne Twist, Sam Branner, Maddie Whitford, Lily Rowe, Chelsea Korzeniewski, Zoey Overslaugh.

 The Finger Lakes Player of the Year was Maci Muller from Waterloo. The Co-Attack Players of the Year were Isabella Veltre from Wayne and Myah Herron from Mynderse-Romulus. The Defender Player of the Year was Taryn Goodness from Pal-Mac. The Midfield Player of the Year was Teagan Hudak from Pal-Mac. The Head Coach of the Year was, once again, E.J. Burse (Pal-Mac).

The USA Lacrosse All-Americans were Bailey Cooper (Penn Yan), Maci Mueller (Waterloo), Ella Peers (Fairport), Ireland Mistretta (Brighton) and  Peyton Rothfuss (Penfield). The All-Academics were Kate DeWald (Rush-Henrietta), Emma Francis (Irondequoit), Lauren Garringer (Pittsford), and Brin Gotham (Victor).

The Monroe County League first team D-1 awards to Camryn DuBose (Fairport), Ellie Miller (Fairport), Madison Van Gorder (Fairport), Lilly Mattucci (Hilton), Alyson Welz (Penfield), Avery Fordham (Penfield), Emma Alexander (Penfield), Jenna Capozzi (Penfield), Peyton Rothfuss (Penfield), Cecily Kaul (Pittsford), Ella Murphy (Pittsford), Lauren Garringer (Pittsford), Danielle Garrett (Rush-Henrietta), Kate DeWald (Rush-Henrietta), Taylee Bernarduci (Rush-Henrietta), Allie Pisano (Victor), Julia Bruno (Victor), Lila Kubrich (Victor), Maia Pronti (Victor).

The D-1 Defensive Player of The Year was Brin Gotham (Victor). The D-1 Offensive Player of The Year was, again, Ella Peers (Fairport) and the Coach of the Year was, again, Dave York (Penfield) who was also named USA Lacrosse Coach of the Year from Section V. 

The Monroe County League awarded first team D-2 awards to Alexandra Madison (Brighton), Ella Brunette (Brighton), Ireland Mistretta (Brighton), Leah Sheridan (Canandaigua), Maddie Passalacqua (Canandaigua), Ellie Bottiglier (Irondequoit), Emma Francis (Irondequoit), Lucy Whipple (Irondequoit), Brooke Endres (Spencerport), Raquel Circhirillo (Spencerport), Lola Wambach (Schroeder), Carly Fitch (Thomas).

The D-2 Defensive Player of The Year was Emma Francis (Irondequoit). The D-2 Offensive Player of The Year was Ireland Mistretta (Brighton) and the Coach of the Year was Mike Butler (Irondequoit).

The Monroe County League awarded first team D-3 awards to Molly McJury (Brockport), Campbell Hewlett (Churchville-Chili), Shavonne Callahan (Churchville-Chili), Evie Amesbury (Gates Chili), Harper Jacob (HFL), Shayne Angelo (HFL), and Tessa Peinkofer (HFL).

The D-3 Defensive Player of The Year was Tessa Peinkofer (HFL). The D-3 Offensive Player of The Year was Shaye Angelo (HFL) and the Coach of the Year was Kristen Butka (HFL). 

The Independent teams also selected awards in 2024. First team awards went to Ada Krupa (Eastridge/BK), Brynn Henry (Aquinas), Maeve Shanahan (Mercy), Emma Kravetz (Mercy), Kessa Sangasy (Aquinas), Lila Hansen (Penn Yan), Maihue Miranda-Wiltberger (Penn Yan), Makenna Mullins (Penn Yan), Mia Lusardi (Mercy), Mia Quagrello (Mercy), Neely Hawn (Eastridge/BK), Savanah Hinchcliffe (Aquinas). The Independent Player of the Year was Bailey Cooper (Penn Yan).

Penfield and Victor Win in States

DAY IN REVIEW: SATURDAY - In a thrilling day of championship girls lacrosse at SUNY Cortland, Penfield and Victor emerged victorious. Penfield claimed its first-ever NYS class A title with a decisive 9-3 victory over Suffern, showcasing a suffocating defensive effort and a spectacular all-around game from Avery Fordham. Victor edged Garden City 12-9, with Maia Pronti scoring the go-ahead goal late in the fourth quarter; with the win, the Blue Devils have now won four consecutive NYS class B titles. 

SUFFERN-3 at PENFIELD-9 - With the win, Penfield earned its first-ever New York State championship. Avery Fordham had four goals and Karis Hand made eight saves to lead the Patriots. Penfield finishes the season with an 18-3 record.    [ Story and BOX SCORE] 

GARDEN CITY-9 at VICTOR-12 - Maia Pronti had two goals and three assists, including the 150th assist of her career, to lead Victor to its fourth consecutive NYS class B title. Victor and Penfield Win in Semifinals

DAY IN REVIEW: FRIDAY - Section V enjoyed a successful day in Cortland on Friday, as Penfield and Victor each won and advanced to the championship game in its respective class. Penfield held off CNS (Section III) 13-10, fueled by standout performances from Peyton Rothfuss (5g/2a), Jenna Capozzi (4g/2a), and goaltender Karis Hand (10s). The Patriots now gear up for the NYS class A title match against Suffern (Section I), to take place Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at SUNY Cortland. Meanwhile, Victor dominated Columbia (Section II) in a decisive 17-3 win, led by Morgan Livingston (3g/3a) and Maia Pronti (4a). The Blue Devils seek their fourth consecutive NYS class B championship when they take on Garden City (Section VIII) Saturday at 2 p.m. at SUNY Cortland. 

PENFIELD-13 at CNS-10 - Peyton Rothfuss (5g/2a) and Jenna Capozzi (4g/2a) led the attack for Penfield, and goaltender Karis Hand had 10 saves to help secure the victory. VICTOR-17 at COLUMBIA-3 - Morgan Livingston, Allie Pisano, Julia Bruno, and Gianna Hedden each scored three goals, and Maia Pronti had four assists to lead Victor.
