DAY IN REVIEW: FRIDAY - Friday's lacrosse action featured standout performances in several exciting games. Churchville-Chili secured a commanding 16-6 victory over Livonia-Avon-Geneseo, with Shavonne Callahan celebrating her 50th career goal. Geneva dominated Mynderse-Romulus 16-7, driven by an explosive eight-goal second quarter and contributions from Makenna Harris and Allison Marquart. Penn Yan triumphed 12-8 against Brighton, thanks in large part to Bailey Cooper`s seven-goal performance, while CNS defeated Fairport 13-8, highlighted by Gabrielle Putman's four goals and 12 draw controls. In addition to those matchups, six other games added to the day's thrilling lacrosse action, showcasing the talent and determination of teams across section V. 

CHURCHVILLE-CHILI-16 at LIVONIA-AVON-GENESEO-6 - Churchville-Chili defeated Livonia-Avon-Geneseo 16-6 in a lacrosse match on April 4. For the Saints, Shavonne Callahan (3g/5a) celebrated her 50th career goal, and Mikayla Mellenthine had six saves. Lily Rowe led the Lakers with two goals and two assists.     [ BOX SCORE] 

MYNDERSE-ROMULUS-7 at GENEVA-16 - Geneva overpowered Mynderse-Romulus 16-7 in a Friday matchup, with standout contributions from Makenna Harris and Allison Marquart. Bailey Cooper spearheaded Penn Yan's offense with seven goals and an assist, supported by Ruby Berry (3g) and Gianna Voigt (3a). Marion Wheeler had seven saves. Penn Yan now gears up to face West Genesee on Monday, while Brighton prepares to host Victor on Tuesday.

HONEOYE FALLS-LIMA-2 at PENFIELD-15 - Penfield defeated HF-L 15-2 in a Monroe County game, led by Peyton Rothfuss with six points and Whitney Reynolds with four goals. Seven Penfield players scored, and goalie Karis Hand recorded seven saves. HF-L`s goals came from Harper Jacob and Shaye Angelo. NEWARK-MIDLAKES-5 at AQUINAS-WOIS-17 - Aquinas-WOIS secured a 17-5 win against Newark-Midlakes in their first-ever matchup. Sophomore Brynn Henry led the Little Irish with six goals and an assist. GATES CHILI-2 at WATERLOO-15 - Waterloo defeated Gates Chili 15-2 on Friday. Maci Mueller led the Tigers with six goals and two assists, while goalie Peyton Lyons had 12 saves for an 86% save rate.     [ BOX SCORE] 

VICTOR-25 at SPENCERPORT-6 - Victor earned a 25-6 win over Spencerport on Friday. Leading the offense for Victor were Maia Pronti, Allie Pisano, and Julia Bruno, while Spencerport was led by Brooke Endres with four goals. Victor had 10 players record at least one goal in the game. Thursday Games: Irondequoit Wins in OT

DAY IN REVIEW: THURSDAY - Thursday`s games showcased a number of exciting games. Irondequoit edged Hilton 8-7 in overtime, earning its sixth consecutive victory in the rivalry, with Grace Bottiglier scoring the decisive goal. Canandaigua triumphed over Schroeder 9-6, powered by Leah Sheridan’s five points and Nola Weaver’s hat trick; Brooke Guelli and Molly Meyer each netted three goals for Schroeder. Greece Storm dominated Gananda-Marion 12-4 in a non-league clash, led by a seven-point performance from Erica Savage. Pittsford opened its season with a 13-10 win against Spencerport, despite six goals from Brooke Endres, including her milestone 100th career goal.

IRONDEQUOIT-8 at HILTON-7 in overtime - Irondequoit defeated Hilton 8-7 in an overtime thriller, with junior Grace Bottiglier scoring the game-winning goal. For Hilton, Lilly Mattucci tallied two goals and two assists, and junior goalkeeper Juliana Turner recorded 10 saves. HFL Secures Win Over Gates Chili in the Rain

DAY IN REVIEW: WEDNESDAY - In the only game completed on a cold, rainy Wednesday evening, HFL defeated Gates Chili by a score of 16 to 1. Shaye Angelo led the scoring for the Cougars with four goals and five assists. The match between Schroeder and Canandaigua was suspended, as was the contest between Hilton and Irondequoit. All remaining games originally scheduled for Wednesday were postponed. 

HONEOYE FALLS-LIMA-16 at GATES CHILI-1 - Honeoye Falls-Lima continued the strong start to its season with a 16-1 victory over Gates Chili on a cold, rainy Wednesday evening. Leading the charge for the Cougars was Shaye Angelo with four goals and five assists, totaling nine points. Emma Blythe contributed one goal and four assists, while Mackinley Buckley and Harper Jacob each added two goals. Cameron McRae, an eighth-grader, scored her first varsity goal, along with two assists. In all, nine different players found the back of the net for Honeoye Falls-Lima. The statistics for Gates Chili were unavailable at post time.

With the win, Honeoye Falls-Lima improves to a 2-0 record, while Gates Chili falls to 0-2. Both teams resume play on Friday, with the Cougars visiting Penfield and the Spartans traveling to Waterloo.     [ BOX SCORE]

DAY IN REVIEW: FRIDAY - Fairport defeated Brighton 16-10 in a Monroe County matchup, with Ella Peers scoring five goals, including the 150th of her career. Ninth-grader Camryn Hauber added her first varsity goal, while Brighton's Ireland Mistretta scored five goals. 

BRIGHTON-10 at FAIRPORT-16 - Fairport secured a 16-10 win against Brighton in a Monroe County game on Friday night. The Red Raiders took control early, leading 4-2 after the first quarter and maintaining their edge throughout. Senior midfielder Ella Peers led Fairport with five goals and two assists, achieving a career milestone of 150 goals, while ninth-grader Camryn Hauber celebrated her first varsity goal. Additional contributions came from Camryn DuBose (3g/3a) and Ellie Miller (2g).

Brighton`s Ireland Mistretta scored five goals, while Alexandra Madison added four goals and an assist. Goalie Lauren Russell made five saves for Brighton in 48 minutes of play.

Fairport extended its lead with consistent scoring each quarter, including a five-goal third. The Bruins made a late push in the fourth, netting four goals, but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit. Madison Van Gorder, Brenna Goss, Kate Patterson, and Meghan Arserio each recorded a goal for Fairport, while Riley Lawrence chipped in one for Brighton. The Season Begins with a Brighton Victory

DAY IN REVIEW: WEDNESDAY - The 2025 lacrosse season saw the first game played at Brighton tonight as the Bruins outscored the Rangers 5-1 in the first quarter and took the win.

SPENCERPORT-6 at BRIGHTON-13 - Brighton kicked off their 2025 Section season with a commanding 13-6 win over Spencerport. Adrienne Zappia and Ella Brunette led Brighton's offense, each scoring 3 goals, while Ireland Mistretta contributed 2 goals and 1 assist.

Despite being scoreless in the third quarter, Spencerport rallied in the fourth with four goals, spearheaded by Brooke Endres, who recorded an impressive 5 goals for the game. However, Brighton's defense, anchored by goaltender Lauren Russell with 6 saves, held strong to keep the lead secure.

2024 Season Wrap Up

There were thirty teams playing Varsity Girls Lacrosse in Section V. There were 688 players on the final rosters. Brockport carried the largest roster with thirty-one players and Waterloo-Marcus Whitman had the smallest with fourteen. 

There were four classes for the sectional tournaments. Penfield (A), Canandaigua (B), and Mercy (C) and Penn Yan (D) were the top seeded teams.

Fairport beat Rush-Henrietta and Pittsford for their championship. Second-seeded Victor beat Thomas and then Brighton before defeating top-seeded Canandaigua for the Class B Championship. In Class C, Mercy beat Wayne and then HFL in a close game to claim their championship while in Class D, Penn Yan beat Marcus Whitman, Aquinas/WOIS, and Pal-Mac for their title.

The teams were able to play a full season again in 2024. The first games were played on March 25th with Hilton, Spencerport and Schroeder winning their openers. The last regular season game was played on May 16th when Canandaigua defeated Churchville-Chili.

The 262 regular season games were played and the 138 league games determined the league championships.

At the end of the year, the Section V Head Coaches selected the post-season award winners including their All-League players. Then they selected five USA Lacrosse All-Americans and five All-Academics. Named All-Americans were Reagan Diehl (Pal-Mac), Ella Peers (Fairport), Devin Livingston (Victor), Hanna Davis (Canandaigua), and Molly Guzik (Spencerport).

Named All-Academics were Alli Chimenti (Wayne), Katie Mallaber (Fairport), Alyssa Nichols (Spencerport), Angelia Oechsle (Rush-Henrietta), and Lucy Lederman (Brighton).

Honeoye Falls-Lima Head Coach Kevin O`Connell was named Coach of the Year from Section V and the Jackie Pitts Award winner was Zoe Baase from Brockport.

After the regular season, the Section V tournaments were conducted. Fairport (Class A), Victor (Class B), Mercy (Class C) and Penn Yan (Class D) were the Sectional Champions in 2024.

The New York State Tournaments were back in full swing and sectional champions went on to play Section VI champions in the Western Regionals (quarter finals).

In Class A, Fairport beat Lancaster (12-7) and then defeated Massapequa (Section VIII) 10-9, taking them to the finals where they lost to Cicero-North Syracuse (Section III) 12-8.

In Class B, Victor beat Clarence (Section VI) by a score of 22-0. They then beat West Islip (Section XI) 11-10 and defeated West Genesee (Section III) 16-8 to win their third Class B NYS Championship in a row.

In Class C, Our Lady of Mercy won their game against Lake Shore of Section VI 17-8 but then lost to Sayville (Section XI) by a score of 13-8 in the semifinals. Penn Yan beat Gowanda (Section VI) 17-4 before losing to Cold Spring Harbor (Section VIII) 18-4 in the semifinals.

By the end of the season at least sixty-four players had made college commitments. They will become part of over three hundred players from Section V who are currently playing at all college levels.

2024 All League Awards

[UPDATED] The annual All-League Awards have been posted and are available on the player pages as well as the awards page.

The Finger Lakes League awarded first team awards to Reagan Diehl, Chelsea Korzeniewski, Anna Priebe, Jenna Santelli, Taryn Goodness, Sidney Clickner, Stella Del Papa, Lainie Forde, Colleen Ginsberg, Myah Herron, Madelyn Hillman, Teagan Hudak, Maci Mueller, Bailey Rossignol, Maddie Whitford, and Amelia Reese.

The Attack Player of the Year was Chelseas Korzaneski from Mynderse-Romulus. The Defender Player of the Year was Taryn Goodness from Pal-Mac. The Midfield Player of the Year was Maci Muller from Waterloo who was also named Finger Lakes Player of the Year. The Head Coach of the Year was E.J. Burse (Pal-Mac).

The USA Lacrosse All-Americans were Molly Guzik (Spencerport), Hanna Davis (Canandaigua), Devin Livingston (Victor), Ella Peers (Fairport) and  Reagan Diehl (Pal-Mac. The All-Academics were Lucy Lederman (Brighton), Angelia Oechsle (Rush-Henrietta), Katie Mallaber (Fairport), and Allie Chimenti ((Wayne).

The Monroe County League first team D-1 awards to Katie Mallaber, Madison Van Gorder, Lilly Mattucci, Jenna Capozzi, Peyton Rothfuss, Cecily Kaul, Dani Mooney, Angelia Oechsle, Catrina Rowe, Danielle Garrett, Kate Dewald, Abby Murphy, Allie Pisano, Julia Bruno, Maia Pronti, Ryann Savage, Lucy Ruller, and Mia Estelle.

The D-1 Defensive Player of The Year was Devin Livingston (Victor). The D-1 Offensive Player of The Year was Ella Peers (Fairport) and the Coach of the Year was Dave York (Penfield).

The Monroe County League awarded first team D-2 awards to Zoe Baase, Caroline Lyttle, Hanna Davis, Leah Sheridan, Nola Weaver, Campbell Hewlett, Paige Kidd, Shaye Angelo, Ali Baumgartner, Ella Brennan, Emma Francis, Alyssa Nichols, Brooke Endres, and Molly Meyer.

The D-2 Defensive Player of The Year was Rose Heagney (Canandaigua). The D-2 Offensive Player of The Year was Molly Guzik (Spencerport) and the Coach of the Year was Kevin O`Connell (HFL) who was also selected as the Monroe County Coach of the Year.

The Independent teams also selected awards in 2024. First teams awards went to Mia Lusardi, Krista Harnischfeger, Elinor Meyer, Marina Reddington, Emma Kravetz, Savannah Hinchcliffe, Brynn Henry, Kessa Sangasy, Ada Krupa, Jill Willis, Erica Savage, and Mara Misiurewicz. Victor Wins State Title

DAY IN REVIEW: SATURDAY - Section V had two teams in the NYS Championships and one came home with the title. CNS (Section III) defeated Fairport 12-8 and Victor beat West Genesee 16-8.

CNS-12 at FAIRPORT-8 in a NYS Championship game - The Red Raiders fell just short in their bid for a second consecutive class A title.  After Fairport rallied from a three-goal deficit to tie the game at seven entering the fourth quarter, C-NS (III) reeled off three straight goals to put the game out of reach.  Ella Peers (4g/1a) and Camryn DuBose (1g/2a) led the scoring for the Red Raiders.  Katie Mallaber, Brenna Goss, and Ella Peers were named to the All-Tournament team.  Fairport concludes another highly successful season with a record of 14-7.      [ BOX SCORE]

Victor and Fairport Back to the Finals

DAY IN REVIEW: FRIDAY - Section V had teams in all four of the NYS semifinals and two will advance to the championship round as both Fairport and Victor won close games.

FAIRPORT-10 at MASSAPEQUA-9 -   In a tight, back-and-forth contest featuring several second-half lead changes, Brenna Goss (3g) scored the game winner off a free position with 26 seconds left and Marisa Test made a last-second save to secure the win.  The game was a rematch of last year’s class A final, which the Red Raiders similarly won by a score of 10 to 9.   Katie Mallaber led Fairport (14-6) with five goals and two assists.  The Red Raiders advance to the class A final, where they will seek to defend their title against Cicero-North Syracuse (III), in a game to be played at 2 pm Saturday at SUNY Cortland.       [ BOX SCORE] 

VICTOR-11 at WEST ISLIP-10 -  Although Victor scored early six unanswered goals West Islip scored a couple to go into the halftime break with Victor up 7-2. The Blue Devils still led after three quarters (8-4) and with 2:15 left in the regulation has an 11-7 lead. Throughout the game it looked like the Blue Devils were very much in control and might even dominate, but the Lions came back with three goals in the last two minutes that started with an unforced turnover and a man-up goal as Carly Obloj dodged two and bounced one into the goal with 1:22 left in the game. The Lions won the draw and called time-out with 1:12 left. Francesca Tofano scored on a free position and brought the Lions to within two goals with 0:59 left. West Islip won the draw and picked up another free position opportunity for Tofano who scored with 0:34 left. Once again, the Lions won the draw control and then called a time out with 0:26 left. They took one more shot which went wide and the Blue Devils were able to hang on for the win. Victor will return to the finals once again and will face West Genesee (Section III) at 4:30 on Saturday. MERCY-8 at SAYVILLE -13 -  Sayville (Section XI) maintained their undefeated season with the victory over Mercy in the semifinals today. Although the Monarchs had a 4-3 lead at the end of the first quarter, Sayville scored five unanswered goals in the second and led 8-4 at the half.  Dylan McNamara led the scoring for the 20-0  Golden Flashes. Scoring for Mercy (10-10) were Krista Harnischfeger (3g-1a), Mia Lusardi (2g), Sydney Cook (1g-1a), Emma Kravetz (1g), and Lydia Malvaso (1g).         [ BOX SCORE] 

PENN YAN-4 at COLD SPRING HARBOR-18 -     In a class D semifinal, Penn Yan ran into a buzzsaw in the form of perennial powerhouse Cold Spring Harbor (VIII).  Bailey Cooper (2g/1a) and ninth-grader Makenna Mullins (2g) accounted for all of the Mustangs’ scoring; Cooper also secured seven draw controls, including the 200th of her varsity career.  The Mustangs conclude their season with an outstanding record of 17-4.       [ BOX SCORE]

A Clean Sweep for Section V

DAY IN REVIEW: SATURDAY - All four Section V teams won their quarterfinal contests at Finger Lakes Community College today.

LANCASTER-7 at FAIRPORT-12 -  The Red Raiders built a 7-2 first-quarter lead en route to their second straight NYS class A semifinal berth.  Ella Peers led Fairport (13-6) with four goals, two assists, and six draw controls.  Katie Mallaber added three goals and Brenna Goss chipped in two more.  It was Fairport’s second win in consecutive years over Lancaster (VI) in the NYS quarterfinal round.  The Red Raiders move on to Cortland, where they will take on Massapequa (VIII) Friday in a rematch of last year’s class A final.        [ BOX SCORE] 

GOWANDA-4 at PENN YAN-17 - The Mustangs scored a convincing win over their opponents from Gowanda (VI).  Nine players scored for Penn Yan (17-3), led by Bailey Cooper (6g/2a).  Ruby Berry, Taylor Mullins, and Makenna Mullins each had two goals for the Mustangs; Taylor Mullins also collected eight draw controls.  With the victory, the Mustangs secured a return trip to Cortland, where they will face Cold Spring Harbor (VIII) in the NYS class D semifinals on Friday.          [ BOX SCORE] 

LAKE SHORE-8 at MERCY-17 -  Leading the scoring for Mercy (10-9) were sophomore attacker Sydney Cook (4g-4a), junior midfielder Lydia Malvaso (4g-1a), and sophomore offensive player Mia Quagrello (3g). In the goal for Mercy was freshman Elinor Meyer who recorded 10s/6ga = 63% (40 mins). Mercy will play Sayville (Section XI) on Friday at 9:00 AM.       [ BOX SCORE]

Victor and Mercy Win Championships

DAY IN REVIEW: WEDNESDAY - Second seeded Victor won their third Section V championship in a row with a strong second and third quarter performance. Mercy came from behind, scoring five goals in the second half, to defeat HFL 10-9.

MERCY-10 at HONEOYE FALLS-LIMA-9 - The Cougars took the 4-3 lead at the end of the first quarter and then led 8-5 at the half. The second half belonged to the Monarchs who outscored HFL 4-1 in the third, tying the game at 9-9 after three quarters. Mercy scored the lone goal in the fourth giving them the Championship. Leading the scoring for Mercy (9-9) were sophomore Mia Quagrello (4g), junior Krista Harnischfeger (2g-1a), and sophomore attacker Sydney Cook (2g). Leading the scoring for Honeoye Falls-Lima (9-10) were senior Camryn Trybuskiewicz (1g-4a), sophomore Shaye Angelo (4g), and junior Rylee Bennett (1g-1a). VICTOR-15 at CANANDAIGUA-10 - Canandaigua took a 3-2 lead after the first quarter, but the Blue Devils responded with seven goals in the second quarter and led at the half 9-5. When they outscored the Gray Wolves 5-2 in the third it was too much for Canandaigua despite scoring three goals in the last stanza. Scoring for Canandaigua (16-3) were senior Hanna Davis (3g-1a), sophomore Lola Schorr (3g-1a), senior Caroline Lyttle (2g-1a), sophomore Leah Sheridan (2g-1a), and junior Samantha Lupton (1a).  There was no report from Victor (16-3) at post-time. Penn Yan and Fairport Win Sectionals

DAY IN REVIEW: TUESDAY - Penn Yan won a close game with Pal-Mac to win their tenth Sectional Title and Fairport won their third and second in a row with the victory over Pittsford.

PITTSFORD-4 at FAIRPORT-9 - The defending class A champions scored six consecutive goals spanning the first and second quarters and were never seriously challenged.  Reese Fuenfstueck, Camryn DuBose, and Meghan Arserio each had two goals for Fairport (12-6), tournament MVP Ella Peers (1g/2a) had a game-high six draw controls, and Marisa Test made six saves.  The Red Raiders next play the winner of the section VI class A final between Lancaster and Orchard Park at 11 am on Saturday at FLCC.  Morgan Wilson scored her first varsity goal for Pittsford, which finishes its season with a record of 9-10.   There was no report from Pittsford at post-time.      [ BOX SCORE] 

PAL-MAC-8 at PENN YAN-11 - In a game played through a steady rain, the Mustangs came away with their second consecutive class D title and their eighth win in a row.  Tournament MVP Taylor Mullins had two goals to go with 13 draw controls.  Bailey Cooper (3g/2a) and Maihue Miranda-Wiltberger (4g) led the scoring for Penn Yan (16-3).  Teagan Hudak, eighth-grader Brinn Castrechini, and Jenna Santelli had two goals apiece for Pal-Mac (14-5); Santelli’s first goal of the game was the 100th of her varsity career.  The Mustangs advance to play the winner of the section VI class D final between Salamanca and Gowanda at 5 pm on Saturday at FLCC.     [ BOX SCORE]
