End of Week #6

Still only one team remains undefated with Spencerport sitting at 7-0.  They face their toughest game yet on Tuesday against Fairport.  Other top teams include Pittsford at 9-1 (after losing their first game vs. Notre Dame Prep) and Pal-Mac at 7-1 (after losing their first game against Irondequoit),  Full Story

Garrett and Schillinger Lead the Royal Comets to Victory

Rush-Henrietta scored the first five goals to lead 5-0 on their way to a 16-6 win over Livonia.  The Royal Comets controlled the pace of the entire game, although there were stand out performances from both teams during the contest. Full Story

Schroeder Holds On for First Win Ever Over HFL

Webster Schroeder defeated HFL for the first time in their history 16-15.  The Warriors took an early lead in the first half and held off the late advances by the Cougars.  Schroeder scored seven out of eight goals in a six minute span early in the first half. Full Story

Fairport Takes Out Sole Undefeated Team

The Red Raiders scored in overtime to defeat Spencerport 7-6.  The Rangers were the last undefeated team in Section Five.  Before today's contest the closest match for them was against Churchville-Chili, where they won 9-6.  Fairport has only lost games against Victor and Pittsford; they are currently 8-2. Last Undefeated Team Falls

Spencerport (the last undefeated team) fell tonight to Fairport in overtime 7-6.  Other close games included Gananda over Newark 7-3, Penfield over Pal-Mac 9-8, Schroeder over HFL 16-15 and Aquinas over Mercy 9-7.  Rounding out game night: Mynderse over Gates-Chili 14-3, West Genesee over Victor 16-6, Rush-Henrietta over Livonia 16-6, Brockport over Ath/Ody 20-3, Thomas over Churchville-Chili 14-6 and Hilton over Eastridge 19-6. Five More Games on Tuesday

There were five more games played tonight.  In the closest contest, Mynderse scored five of the last six to defeat Wayne 8-6.  In other games, Gananda defeated Midlakes 12-6, Pal-Mac defeated Waterloo 16-6 and Geneva defeated Marcus Whitman 18-10.  The Penn Yan defeated Newark 14-4. Full Story

Mynderse Pulls Ahead in Second Half

In a game that was back and forth for its entirety, Mynderse scored five of the last six goals to defeat Wayne 8-6.  By the end of the game the lead had changed four times.  Sarah Shaffer finished with 3 goals for the Blue Devils. Full Story

Panepento Scores in Overtime for Wanye

Mary Panepento scored her fifth goal of the night with 1:30 remaining in overtime to give Wayne the 14-13 win over Greece Athena/Odyssey.  This was the third overtime game of the season for the Eagles and their first win (vs. Gananda and vs. Marcus Whitman). In a game that was back and forth throughout, neither team led by more than three. Almost All Close Match-ups

In a day of mostly close match-ups, the most one-sided contest was only a 5 goal differential: Mercy defeated Geneva 12-7. In closer contests; Wayne defeated Greece Ath/Ody 13-12, Churchville-Chili defeated Penn Yan 11-9, Waterloo defeated Aquinas 8-6, Marcus Whitman defeated Gananda 7-5 and Midlakes defeated East Rochester 10-7. Ten Different Red Raiders Score

Pal-Mac defeated Wayne 14-6 with ten different Red Raiders scoring at least one goal and twelve making the offensive scorebook.  Leading the charge was junior attackman Anna Leva with 3g-2a.  Leva lead Pal-Mac is both assists and points with 19g-31a (Pal-Mac Season Totals).  The Eagles were led by junior midfielder Mary Panepento with 3g-1a.  In addition to their offensive leader, goalie Rachel Haywood finished the game with 9 saves and played a strong game between the pipes at 50% over 44 minutes. Ryan Wins Game with 0:12 Remaining

Rachel Ryan scored her sixth goal to lift Hilton 13-12 over Brockport with only 0:12 remaining on the clock.  Ryan leads her team in goals, assists and points with 60g-19a. Brockport was led in scoring by Leah Daly with 7g-1a.  Daly also leads her team in goals and points with 44g-9a (Senior attackman Jasmyn Jessmer leads in assists with 31). Full Story

Free Position Goals Give Irondequoit the Win

Irondequoit scored the final four goals of the contest to defeat Webster Schroeder 9-7.  The Eagles have won the contest all eight times that the two teams have played in the last 10 years.  After tonight's game, the Eagles increase their record to 7-4 and the Warriors fall to 4-8. Full Story

Friday Night is a Mix of Close and One Sided

In a mix of close and one sided matches, there were three games within two points:  Fairport defeated Brighton 12-11 in overtime, Hilton defeated Brockport 13-12 and Irondequoit defeated Schroeder 9-7.  The game in the midrange included Marcus Whitman over Midlakes 15-10 and Aquinas over Geneva 14-8.  One sided matchups were Pittsford over Canandaigua 14-3, Pal-Mac over Wayne 14-6 and Spencerport over Eastridge 23-3. Meagher Lifts Fairport in Overtime

Junior midfielder Sydney Meagher scored only her 7th goal of the season and her first goal of the night to give Fairport the 12-11 win over Brighton in overtime.  She scored with 0:41 left in the first overtime period on an unassisted goal for the Red Raiders. Full Story

Rush Henrietta Wins 5th Straight

Rush Henrietta led 7-1 on their way to a 10-5 win over Honeoye Falls-Lima.  The Royal Comets have won their last five games (Penfield, Thomas, Schroeder) and improved their record to 8-4 (back in April they were 3-4).  The Cougars, who were just off a 12-9 win over Victor, only scored two goals in the first half. Two Close Games to End the Week

Victor came back in the second half to defeat Webster Thomas 10-8.  Rush-Henrietta came out strong in the first half to defeat HFL 10-5.  Waterloo defeated East Rochester 12-3, Spencerport defeated Arc/Oly 16-7 and Pal-Mac defeated Amherst 11-2.  No score has been reported for Pittsford vs. Corning or Penfield vs. CBA. Statistical Overview Following Week 7

As we approach the final weeks of the season, it seemed appropriate to write an article about statistics in Section Five.  When GLaxFive launched, we chose not to include a leader board, but as the season has progressed it is a decision that we re-visited.  For this season, we hope to publish a few articles that can fill that gap. Big Game Night to Start the Week

Tonight was a big night of games with 11 games being played in Section Five.  The closest match-ups were the two overtime games with Fairport defeating Irondequoit 13-12 and HFL defeating Penfield 11-10.  Rounding out the games were Penn Yan over Whitman 15-10, Schroeder over Brockport 17-6, Mynderse over Gananda 11-4, Geneva over Midlakes 16-4, Pal-Mac over Newark 16-3, Arc/Oly over Livonia 11-7, Waterloo over Mercy 11-4 and Wayne over East Rochester 8-2. Red Raiders Comeback and Win over Overtime

Fairport is becoming used to playing in overtime.  In the last four games, the Red Raiders have gone to overtime three times and won all three.  Maddie Howe scored her third goal of the night with 1:11 left in overtime to secure the victory. Full Story

Five Games Reported

On a night with six games scheduled, only three were reported.  No report is currenty submitted for R-H vs. Brighton.  The three reported were Spencerport over Ath/Ody 22-4, Geneva vs. Livonia 15-6 and Brockport over Gates-Chili 19-1.  Additional reports are being updated this morning. Full Story

Thompson Scores Five in Wildcat Win

Emily Thompson scored five goals in Marcus Whitman's 11-8 win over Mynderse.  The Wildcats scored six unanswered goals in the first half to take control of the game and held off the late advance by the Blue Devils.  Thompson scored all five of her goals in the six goals stretch.  The Blue Devils scored five of the last seven to bring the score closer in the end. In the closest games of the night, Marcus Whitman defeated Mynderse 11-8 and East Rochester defeated Newark 6-1.  Other winners were Schroeder over Livonia 20-4, Pal-Mac over Gananda 16-2, Penn Yan defeated Geneva 16-7, Waterloo defeated Wayne 15-5 and Canandaigua defeated Mercy 15-5. Full Story

Seven games were reported tonight.  The closest was a two goal win for HFL over Irondequoit 9-7.  Penfield defeated Thomas 8-5, Canandaigua defeated Churchville-Chili 8-4 and Fairport defeated Schroeder 15-10.  In more one sided contests, Hilton defeated Ath/Ody 19-8, Pittsford defeated RH 16-6 and Spencerport defeated Brockport 14-3. The closest game tonight was Livonia over Midlakes 15-12.  Spencerport defeated Hilton 10-6, Gananda defeated Newark 10-3 and Pal-Mac defeated Marcus Whitman 16-3. Full Story

Three out of Four Games Close

Three of the four games tonight were within 3 goals: Irondequoit defeated Brighton 8-5, HFL defeated CNS 9-6 and Churchville-Chili defeated Waterloo 8-5.  The fourth game of the night saw Wayne defeating East Rochester 12-5. Full Story

The second to last week of the regular season comes to a close today.  The Laxpower rankings show Class A (Pittsford, Fairport, R-H) as the top three.  Class B (Spencerport, Victor, Brghton) and Class C (Pal-Mac, HFL and Penn Yan). Full Story

Biggest Game Night Left This Season

With the final week of the regular season upon us, tonight was the biggest night of games left in the season.  The closest game tonight was Corning over Penn Yan 12-11 in overtime and Waterloo over Geneva 8-7 in overtime.  Other close games included, Brockport over Hilton 8-7, Irondequoit over Canandaigua 8-7 and Brighton over HFL 6-5.  Additional games were Churchville-Chili over Victor 11-7, Pittsford over Thomas 18-8, Fairport over Penfield 12-8, Arc/Oly over Gates Chili 15-6, Gananda over East Rochester 9-5, Wayne over Newark 12-7, Spencerport over Eastridge 19-2 and RH over Mercy 16-4. Barnhart Scores in Overtime for Waterloo

Sam Barnhart scored her first goal of the night for Waterloo to give them the 8-7 overtime win over Geneva.  Both teams had the lead during regulation with the game being tied from 3-3 on to the final.  The Panthers took an early lead, but Waterloo scored four out of five straight goals to go into the second half tied 4-4. Ruggieri Wins with Less Than 1 Minute

Erika Ruggieri scored with 0:44 remaining in regulation to give Brockport the 8-7 win over Hilton.  These two teams faced earlier in the season with Hilton coming out on top 13-12 (HERE).  The Blue Devils came into the game looking for retribution and found it. This was the final game of the regular season for the Blue Devils and they finished the season 11-5.  Hilton still has one game left on the books against Fairport on Wednesday. Wayne Scores Nine out Ten Straight

Although the game was close for the first half, Wayne scored nine out of ten straight goals to take the game from down by two (1-3) to leading by six (10-4).  The Eagles scored four goals to end the half and two more to start the second before Newark scored their fourth goal.  They were held scoreless for nearly 20 minutes of game time. Howe and Pollack Lead Fairport to Victory

Maddie Howe scored 5g-1a and Brittney Pollack scored 2g-4a to lead Fairport to a 12-8 win over Penfield.  The two were a part (either goal or assist) on 10 of the 12 goals for the Red Raiders.  Penfield kept the game close for the first 35 minutes before Fairport started pulling ahead.  The Red Raiders scored the final three goals and four of the last five to secure the win. Smallidge Lifts Arcadia/Olympia

Savannah Smallidge scored 5g-1a and recorded three draw controls in Greece Arcadia/Olympia's 15-6 win over Gates Chili.  Smallidge scored almost at will and scored with some impressive drives at the cage.  She was demonstrative all over the field, especiallyon gaining control of loose balls. Only Three Days Left

With three days left in the regular season, there were three games scheduled to be played.  RH vs. Aquinas had not reported the score yet.  Wayne defeated Gananda 10-5 and Mynderse defeated Livonia 8-5. Full Story

One Day Left in the Regular Season

Last major night of the regular season.  With only two games tomorrow, the regular season is coming to a close.  Tomorrow at midnight (12:01 AM on 5/20/2016) the Sectional Seeding will be locked and the tournament brackets will be released.  An article will be published tomorrow with links to the brackets and the seeding for Class A, B and C.  Tonight there were 10 games scheduled, although only 9 have scores reported at the moment. Final Day of 2016 Regular Season

Today was the final day of the regular season with two games being played.  Pal-Mac defeated Geneva 13-6 and Livonia defeated Eastridge 12-9.  With the regular season completed, the Sectional seeding has been published. Full Story

Out-Bracket Games

Out-Bracket games will be played over the next two days.  There are 10 total out-bracket games with five in each Class B and Class C.  Four of the games are scheduled for Friday and six are scheduled for Saturday.  This story will be updated tomorrow as more games are reported. Full Story

Quarter Final Match-ups

Quarter final match-ups will be played over the next two days.  At this point, Class B and Class C are both full brackets with 8 teams remaining in each.  Class A starts their tournament on Monday with two games to decide who will face the #1 and #2 seeds. Full Story

Lill Scored as Time Expired to Give Schroeder the Win

In the first game of the tournament season where the lower seed was victorious, #5 Webster Schroeder defeated #4 Penfield 8-7.  The Warriors scored the game winning goal with 0:00.3 remaining on the clock.  Payton Lill scored her fourth goal as time expired to give the Warriors the win. Full Story

Garrett and Mashewske lead RH to Victory

Although the game was close for the first 20 minutes, R-H scored four unanswered to lead 5-2 over Mercy and never looked back.  The Royal Comets also added the final five goals.  Mercy scored the opening goal with Sami Carey scoring with a drive around behind the cage.  0:36 later, RH tied the game with a free position goal from Emily Schillinger.  The Monarchs kept the game close with another goal less than one minute later.  Katie Sergeant was patient and drove to the cage and found the back of the net. Thomas Defense Steps up in Overtime Win

In the second game of the tournament where the lower seed won, #5 Thomas defeated #4 Irondequoit 10-9 in double overtime.  The Titans` defense was stellar and they were the keystone to their victory.  Sophmore Keyal Bay, juniors Julia Nicolosi and Grace Lagoner and senior Allison Barnes and junior goalie Haley Barrett deserve more press than they will receive.  The five close defenseman, along with their midfield counterparts were beyond impressive in today`s contest.  In addition to the defense, junior midfielder Emily Glagolev had a stand-out day at the draw.  She finished with 10 draw controls for the Titans. Semi-Final Match-ups

The Semi-Final match-ups will be played over the next two days.  The Class A games will played on May 26th at HF-L.  The Class B game will be played on May 27th at Pittsford Sutherland.  The Class C games will be played on May 27th at Victor.

Howe and Pollack Lift Fairport to Finals

Fairport scored the first goal and the game was never tied in their 9-5 win over Rush-Henrietta.  The second seeded Red Raiders took control of the game early and although the Royal Comets fought hard, they could not keep pace.  Maddie Howe finished the game with a team leading 4g-1a, as well as three draw controls.  Brittney Pollack finished with 1g-4a for the Red Raiders.  Junior midfielder Sydney Meagher was also a major factor in the win with 6 draw controls.  The Red Raiders won 11/16 draws. Plain Scores Six for Pittsford

Megan Plain finished with 6g-1a for the #1 seed Pittsford in their 17-4 win over #5 seed Webster Schroeder.  The Panthers scored the first two goals and the game was never tied.  They scored 6 of the first 7 and led 6-1 with 12:37 remaining in the first half. Full Story

Finals Match-ups

The final two days of Section Five lacrosse are upon us with the Sectional Titles being decided over the next two days.  The Class A Finals will be #1 seeded Pittsford vs. #2 seeded Fairport.  The Class B Finals will be #1 seeded Spencerport vs. #2 seeded Victor.  The Class C Finals will be #1 seeded Pal-Mac vs. #2 seeded HFL.  Class A Finals will be played on May 31st at St. John Fisher College in a Boys/Girls double header.  Class B and Class C Finals will be played on June 1st at Pittsford Sutherland. Class A All Tournament Team

At the conclusion of the Class A Tournament.  Section Five announced the first ever All Tournament Team.  The Team consists of the top 13 players in the Class A Tournament this year.  There are 12 regular spots and an MVP spot. Full Story
