# 703 Victor and Fairport Back to the Finals FAIRPORT-10 at MASSAPEQUA-9 - In a tight, back-and-forth contest featuring several second-half lead changes, Brenna Goss (3g) scored the game winner off a free position with 26 seconds left and Marisa Test made a last-second save to secure the win. The game was a rematch of last year’s class A final, which the Red Raiders similarly won by a score of 10 to 9. Katie Mallaber led Fairport (14-6) with five goals and two assists. The Red Raiders advance to the class A final, where they will seek to defend their title against Cicero-North Syracuse (III), in a game to be played at 2 pm Saturday at SUNY Cortland. [ BOX SCORE] VICTOR-11 at WEST ISLIP-10 - Although Victor scored early six unanswered goals West Islip scored a couple to go into the halftime break with Victor up 7-2. The Blue Devils still led after three quarters (8-4) and with 2:15 left in the regulation has an 11-7 lead. Throughout the game it looked like the Blue Devils were very much in control and might even dominate, but the Lions came back with three goals in the last two minutes that started with an unforced turnover and a man-up goal as Carly Obloj dodged two and bounced one into the goal with 1:22 left in the game. The Lions won the draw and called time-out with 1:12 left. Francesca Tofano scored on a free position and brought the Lions to within two goals with 0:59 left. West Islip won the draw and picked up another free position opportunity for Tofano who scored with 0:34 left. Once again, the Lions won the draw control and then called a time out with 0:26 left. They took one more shot which went wide and the Blue Devils were able to hang on for the win. Victor will return to the finals once again and will face West Genesee (Section III) at 4:30 on Saturday. There was no report from Victor at post-time. [ BOX SCORE] MERCY-8 at SAYVILLE -13 - Sayville (Section XI) maintained their undefeated season with the victory over Mercy in the semifinals today. Although the Monarchs had a 4-3 lead at the end of the first quarter, Sayville scored five unanswered goals in the second and led 8-4 at the half. Dylan McNamara led the scoring for the 20-0 Golden Flashes. Scoring for Mercy (10-10) were Krista Harnischfeger (3g-1a), Mia Lusardi (2g), Sydney Cook (1g-1a), Emma Kravetz (1g), and Lydia Malvaso (1g). [ BOX SCORE] PENN YAN-4 at COLD SPRING HARBOR-18 - In a class D semifinal, Penn Yan ran into a buzzsaw in the form of perennial powerhouse Cold Spring Harbor (VIII). Bailey Cooper (2g/1a) and ninth-grader Makenna Mullins (2g) accounted for all of the Mustangs’ scoring; Cooper also secured seven draw controls, including the 200th of her varsity career. # 700 Penn Yan and Fairport Win Sectionals PAL-MAC-8 at PENN YAN-11 - In a game played through a steady rain, the Mustangs came away with their second consecutive class D title and their eighth win in a row. Tournament MVP Taylor Mullins had two goals to go with 13 draw controls. Bailey Cooper (3g/2a) and Maihue Miranda-Wiltberger (4g) led the scoring for Penn Yan (16-3). Teagan Hudak, eighth-grader Brinn Castrechini, and Jenna Santelli had two goals apiece for Pal-Mac (14-5); Santelli’s first goal of the game was the 100th of her varsity career. The Mustangs advance to play the winner of the section VI class D final between Salamanca and Gowanda at 5 pm on Saturday at FLCC. [ BOX SCORE] |
# 698 Two Close Semis and Two Not So Close PAL-MAC-19 at WATERLOO-4 - For the Red Raiders, it was their seventh consecutive win. Eight players scored for No. 3 Pal-Mac (14-4), including Teagan Hudak (2g/3a), Anna Priebe (4g/1a), Reagan Diehl (4g), Jenna Santelli (3g), and Lily Boesel (3g), and Isabelle Cole had five saves. Ninth-grader Peyton Lyons had five saves for No. 2 Waterloo, including her 100th of the season. Maci Mueller and Lainie Forde each scored two goals for the Tigers, who finish their season with a record of 13-5. Pal-Mac meets No. 1 Penn Yan in the class D final on Tuesday. Leading the scoring for the Mustangs were Bailey Cooper (3g/2a), Corinne Barden (2g/3a), and Gianna Voigt (3g). Madisen Pierce scored her first varsity goal for Penn Yan. For No. 4 Aquinas, ninth-grader Brynn Henry had two goals, including the 50th of her varsity career; she also collected her 100th career draw control. Aquinas concludes its season with a record of 9-8. On Tuesday, the Mustangs will meet No. 3 Pal-Mac to decide the class D title.
