# 707 2024 Season Wrap Up There were thirty teams playing Varsity Girls Lacrosse in Section V. There were 688 players on the final rosters. Brockport carried the largest roster with thirty-one players and Waterloo-Marcus Whitman had the smallest with fourteen. There were four classes for the sectional tournaments. Penfield (A), Canandaigua (B), and Mercy (C) and Penn Yan were the top seeded teams. Fairport beat Rush-Henrietta and the Pittsford for their championship. Second-seeded Victor beat Thomas and then Brighton before defeating top-seeded Victor for the Class B Championship. In Class C, Mercy beat Wayne and then HFL in a close game to claim their championship while in Class D, Penn Yan beat Marcus Whitman, Aquinas/WHOIS, and the Pal-Mac for their title. The teams were able to play a full season again in 2024. The first games were played on March 25th with Hilton, Spencerport and Schroeder winning their openers. The last regular season game was played on May 16th when Canandaigua defeated Churchville-Chili. The 262 regular season games were played and the 138 league games determined the league championships. At the end of the year, the Section V Head Coaches selected the post-season award winners including their All-League players. Then they selected five USA Lacrosse All-Americans and five All-Academics. Named All-Americans were Reagan Diehl (Pal-Mac), Ella Peers (Fairport), Devin Livingston (Victor), Hanna Davis (Canandaigua), and Molly Guzik (Spencerport). Named All-Academics were Alli Chimenti (Wayne), Katie Mallaber (Fairport), Alyssa Nichols (Spencerport), Angelia Oechsle (Rush-Henrietta), and Lucy Lederman (Brighton). Honeoye Falls-Lima Head Coach Kevin O`Connell was named Coach of the Year from Section V and the Jackie Pitts Award winner was Zoe Baase from Brockport. After the regular season, the Section V tournaments were conducted. Fairport (Class A), Victor (Class B), Mercy (Class C) and Penn Yan (Class D) were the Sectional Champions in 2024. The New York State Tournaments were back in full swing and sectional champions went on to play Section VI champions in the Western Regionals (quarter finals). In Class A, Fairport beat Lancaster (12-7) and then defeated Massapequa (Section VIII) 10-9-7, taking them to finals where they lost to Cicero-North Syracuse (Sect III) 12-8. In Class B, Victor beat Clarence (Section VI) with a score of 22-0. They then beat West Islip (Section X) 11-10 and defeated West Genesee (Section III) 16-8 to win their third Class B NYS Championship in a row. In Class C, Our Lady of Mercy won their game against Lake Shore of Section VI 17-8 but then lost to Sayville (Section XI) with a score of 13-8 in the semifinals. Penn Yan beat Gowanda (Section VI) 17-4 before losing to Cold Spring Harbor (Section VIII) 18-4 in the semifinals. At the end of the season at least sixty-four players who have made college commitments. They will become part of over three hundred players from Section V who are currently playing at all college levels.

# 706 2024 All League Awards [UPDATED] The annual All-League Awards have been posted and are available on the player pages as well as the awards page. The Finger Lakes League awarded first team awards to Reagan Diehl, Chelsea Korzeniewski, Anna Priebe, Jenna Santelli, Taryn Goodness, Sidney Clickner, Stella Del Papa, Lainie Forde, Colleen Ginsberg, Myah Herron, Madelyn Hillman, Teagan Hudak, Maci Mueller, Bailey Rossignol, Maddie Whitford, and Amelia Reese. The Attack Player of the Year was Chelseas Korzaneski from Mynderse-Romulus. The Defender Player of the Year was Taryn Goodness from Pal-Mac. The Midfield Player of the Year was Maci Muller from Waterloo who was also named Finger Lakes Player of the Year. The Head Coach of the Year was E.J. Burse (Pal-Mac). The USA Lacrosse All-Americans were Molly Guzik (Spencerport), Hanna Davis (Canandaigua), Devin Livingston (Victor), Ella Peers (Fairport) and Reagan Diehl (Pal-Mac. The All-Academics were Lucy Lederman (Brighton), Angelia Oechsle (Rush-Henrietta), Katie Mallaber (Fairport), and Allie Chimenti ((Wayne). The Monroe County League first team D-1 awards to Katie Mallaber, Madison Van Gorder, Lilly Mattucci, Jenna Capozzi, Peyton Rothfuss, Cecily Kaul, Dani Mooney, Angelia Oechsle, Catrina Rowe, Danielle Garrett, Kate Dewald, Abby Murphy, Allie Pisano, Julia Bruno, Maia Pronti, Ryann Savage, Lucy Ruller, and Mia Estelle. The D-1 Defensive Player of The Year was Devin Livingston (Victor). The D-1 Offensive Player of The Year was Ella Peers (Fairport) and the Coach of the Year was Dave York (Penfield). The Monroe County League awarded first team D-2 awards to Zoe Baase, Caroline Lyttle, Hanna Davis, Leah Sheridan, Nola Weaver, Campbell Hewlett, Paige Kidd, Shaye Angelo, Ali Baumgartner, Ella Brennan, Emma Francis, Alyssa Nichols, Brooke Endres, and Molly Meyer. The D-2 Defensive Player of The Year was Rose Heagney (Canandaigua). The D-2 Offensive Player of The Year was Molly Guzik (Spencerport) and the Coach of the Year was Kevin O`Connell (HFL) who was also selected as the Monroe County Coach of the Year. # 704 Victor Wins State Title WEST GENESEE-8 at VICTOR-16 - in a NYS Championship game - The Blue Devils repeated and won their third Championship game in a row. Victor took a 6-2 lead at the end of the first quarter and led 10-4 at the half. Stats were not available at post-time. [ BOX SCORE] CNS-12 at FAIRPORT-8 in a NYS Championship game - The Red Raiders fell just short in their bid for a second consecutive class A title. After Fairport rallied from a three-goal deficit to tie the game at seven entering the fourth quarter, C-NS (III) reeled off three straight goals to put the game out of reach. Ella Peers (4g/1a) and Camryn DuBose (1g/2a) led the scoring for the Red Raiders. Katie Mallaber, Brenna Goss, and Ella Peers were named to the All-Tournament team. # 703 Victor and Fairport Back to the Finals FAIRPORT-10 at MASSAPEQUA-9 - In a tight, back-and-forth contest featuring several second-half lead changes, Brenna Goss (3g) scored the game winner off a free position with 26 seconds left and Marisa Test made a last-second save to secure the win. The game was a rematch of last year’s class A final, which the Red Raiders similarly won by a score of 10 to 9. Katie Mallaber led Fairport (14-6) with five goals and two assists. The Red Raiders advance to the class A final, where they will seek to defend their title against Cicero-North Syracuse (III), in a game to be played at 2 pm Saturday at SUNY Cortland. [ BOX SCORE] VICTOR-11 at WEST ISLIP-10 - Although Victor scored early six unanswered goals West Islip scored a couple to go into the halftime break with Victor up 7-2. The Blue Devils still led after three quarters (8-4) and with 2:15 left in the regulation has an 11-7 lead. Throughout the game it looked like the Blue Devils were very much in control and might even dominate, but the Lions came back with three goals in the last two minutes that started with an unforced turnover and a man-up goal as Carly Obloj dodged two and bounced one into the goal with 1:22 left in the game. The Lions won the draw and called time-out with 1:12 left. Francesca Tofano scored on a free position and brought the Lions to within two goals with 0:59 left. West Islip won the draw and picked up another free position opportunity for Tofano who scored with 0:34 left. Once again, the Lions won the draw control and then called a time out with 0:26 left. They took one more shot which went wide and the Blue Devils were able to hang on for the win. Victor will return to the finals once again and will face West Genesee (Section III) at 4:30 on Saturday. There was no report from Victor at post-time. [ BOX SCORE] MERCY-8 at SAYVILLE -13 - Sayville (Section XI) maintained their undefeated season with the victory over Mercy in the semifinals today. Although the Monarchs had a 4-3 lead at the end of the first quarter, Sayville scored five unanswered goals in the second and led 8-4 at the half. Dylan McNamara led the scoring for the 20-0 Golden Flashes. Scoring for Mercy (10-10) were Krista Harnischfeger (3g-1a), Mia Lusardi (2g), Sydney Cook (1g-1a), Emma Kravetz (1g), and Lydia Malvaso (1g). [ BOX SCORE] PENN YAN-4 at COLD SPRING HARBOR-18 - In a class D semifinal, Penn Yan ran into a buzzsaw in the form of perennial powerhouse Cold Spring Harbor (VIII). Bailey Cooper (2g/1a) and ninth-grader Makenna Mullins (2g) accounted for all of the Mustangs’ scoring; Cooper also secured seven draw controls, including the 200th of her varsity career. # 702 A Clean Sweep for Section V GOWANDA-4 at PENN YAN-17 - The Mustangs scored a convincing win over their opponents from Gowanda (VI). Nine players scored for Penn Yan (17-3), led by Bailey Cooper (6g/2a). Ruby Berry, Taylor Mullins, and Makenna Mullins each had two goals for the Mustangs; Taylor Mullins also collected eight draw controls. With the victory, the Mustangs secured a return trip to Cortland, where they will face Cold Spring Harbor (VIII) in the NYS class D semifinals on Friday. Eight players scored for No. 3 Pal-Mac (14-4), including Teagan Hudak (2g/3a), Anna Priebe (4g/1a), Reagan Diehl (4g), Jenna Santelli (3g), and Lily Boesel (3g), and Isabelle Cole had five saves. Ninth-grader Peyton Lyons had five saves for No. 2 Waterloo, including her 100th of the season. Maci Mueller and Lainie Forde each scored two goals for the Tigers, who finish their season with a record of 13-5. Pal-Mac meets No. 1 Penn Yan in the class D final on Tuesday. [ BOX SCORE] FAIRPORT-11 at BRIGHTON-7 - Fairport opened its season in defense of its class A title with a win at Brighton. Lily Kondas (5g) and Katie Mallaber (3g) led the Red Raiders’ attack, while Taylor Frank made nine saves. For the Bruins, Ella Brunette and Alexandra Madison had two goals apiece. On April 1, Fairport has a non-league matchup against Cicero-North Syracuse (III). Brighton plays next on April 12, when they host Victor. [ BOX SCORE] GREECE STORM-11 at WATERLOO-12 - In a tightly contested match, the Warriors prevailed, earning head coach Matthew VanDamme his first varsity win. For Waterloo, Maci Mueller scored seven goals, Lainie Forde chipped in four goals, and sophomore Bailey Rossignol notched her first career goal.
